A mother and her child arrive for a doctor’s visit at Kalma Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Nyala, South Darfur. Medical exams are being conducted on 1,500 of the camp’s residents who will return to their West Darfur homes in a large-scale operation organized by the Government of Sudan with assistance from UN agencies.

Hadley's grandfather performed the medical examinations for draftees in Bastrop, Louisiana. The myth of these exams is that since Dr. Leavell's office was on the second floor, he considered any young man who was able to climb the stairs as ready and able to serve in the U.S. military.
