Nederlandse bedrijven zien steeds meer kansen in Zuid-India. Daarom investeert Nederland in de opening van een nieuw Consulaat/NBSO in Bangalore om BV Nederland bij te staan bij het realiseren van deze marktkansen. En organiseert van 18 - 23 juni 2017 een economische missie naar Zuid-India (New Delhi, Bangalore en Hyderabad) in aanwezigheid van Marten van den Berg, directeur-generaal Buitenlandse Economische Betrekkingen van het ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken.

India biedt met een bevolking van 1,3 miljard mensen en een sterk groeiende goed opgeleide middenklasse een grote potentiële afzetmarkt voor het Nederlandse bedrijfsleven. De Indiase economische groei loopt naar verwachting in 2016-2017 verder op tot 7,8%, de consumentengoederenmarkt groeit met 15% en het investeringsklimaat is aantrekkelijk. Het is dan ook geen wonder dat IMF de Indiase economie aanmerkt als een bright spot.

Tijdens deze missie ligt de focus op de volgende thema’s:

•Smart cities

•High Tech

Deze thema’s zullen naar verwachting interessant zijn voor bedrijven en kennisinstellingen uit de HTSM-sectoren: IT (cyber security, serious gaming, e-health); Medtech (medical devices, hospital infrastructure, e-health); space/aerospace; precision engineering; smart manufacturing/talent of Indian engineers. Ook voor bedrijven en kennisinstellingen uit de sectoren Life Science & Health, fintech, water en logistiek en infrastructuur is deze missie interessant.

Tijdens de missie komen onderwerpen aan de orde als: duurzame stedelijke ontwikkeling, stedelijke mobiliteit, watermanagement, een goede gezondheidszorg, wetenschappelijke samenwerking, robotica.

i had a very unusual new year's eve celebration this time. i spent it at the hospital lab where rj is on duty amidst all the celebrations around the world for the coming of 2008. hey, we partied the way we could so it's all good. i was waiting for the victims of firecracker related injuries, but instead we got a drunk guy with a stab wound. oh well, maybe next year. haha! i'm bad.

Thanks to the organisers for inviting me to attend the first Tech. Summit in the Convention Centre on the North Wall in Dublin Docklands.

The Dublin Tech Summit (DTS) is an international technology conference held in Dublin, Ireland. The first summit took place 15 and 16 February 2017, at the Convention Centre Dublin.

The organisers plan to run the event annually, and to attract more than 10,000 attendees as well as influential speakers, startups, exhibitors, sponsors and investors, covering eight main themes:

DTS was the idea of Business and Finance magazine publisher Ian Hyland and former Accenture consultant Ben English.

Irish telecoms firm eir has shown strong support for the Dublin Tech Summit, establishing itself as a founding partner and lead sponsor.

According to the local media this event is one of many hoping to fill the void left by the controversial departure of the Web Summit to Lisbon, Portugal after 2016.

Based on the long lines of people waiting to register this morning it is most likely that the event attracted more than 10,000.

Al Weingart (BusAd' 76; Law '80) and Mary Pihringer Weingart (MedTech '76; Grad '81) celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in November. Their two attendants at the wedding were Ann Pihringer Leonardelli (MedTech '78) and Christopher Blake (Dent '78). The celebration continued as Mary and Al's younger son, Nathan, graduated in Construction Engineering & Management in December. He joins his brother, Andrew (BioMedEng '12) and deceased grandfather, Charles Pihringer (Chem '44), as well as two cousins, in the Marquette tradition.
