The nights are drawing in now that autumn is here meaning that I rarely get the chance to go out with my camera during daylight hours!
I came to Stanley Ferry Marina because I wanted to try and capture some of the lovely reflections on the clear, still water. I have struggled with the lighting though because the lights from the pub and the street lamps were very bright so, in order to avoid blowing them out completely, I have ended up with the rest of it quite dark. I know I could use hdr but I don't really like the effect. Anyway, I have the whole of autumn and winter to practise!
Been meaning to try one of these in Brecon or the beach for agers now just havent had the opportunity yet with conditions and work :/ hopefully soon! But i liked the way this one worked out the street lights in front of my house lit up the trees just enough, this was taken for about 2-3 hours i think.

It sits off the A2 coast road between Cushendall and Ballycastle. It has a sheltered harbour and lies at the mouth of the River Dun and Glendun, one of the nine Glens of Antrim. The Mull of Kintyre in Scotland is only about 15 miles away across the North Channel and can be seen easily on clear days. In the 2001 Census it had a population of 138 people.
It is part of Causeway Coast and Glens district.
The nearby hamlet of Knocknacarry is located approximately 0.6 miles to the west.
Cushendun village, was designed for Ronald McNeill, the Conservative MP and author later Lord Cushendun in the style of a Cornish village by the architect Clough Williams-Ellis. Since 1954 most of the village and the parkland around Glenmona to the north has been owned by the National Trust. Cushendun's picturesque coastal setting in the heart of the Antrim Coast and Glens Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, together with its architectural inheritance, resulted in designation as a Conservation area in 1980.
The nearby caves of Cushendun have been used as backdrop in the series Game of Thrones.

Otrobanda (meaning ‘the other side’) is on the opposite side of St. Anna Bay. This district was developed in the 18th century. The main shopping street in Otrobanda is the Breedestraat. You can find this street between Kura Hulanda and the Riffort. Kura Hulanda is one of the best restorations of Otrobanda. An entire section of Otrobanda’s dilapidated slum was transformed into a magnificently renovated historical district, the best example of Dutch colonial architecture in the Caribbean.

Smoo Cave is a large combined sea cave and freshwater cave in Durness in Sutherland, Highland, Scotland. The cave name is thought to originate from the Norse 'smjugg' or 'smuga', meaning a hole or hiding-place.

Kata Tjuṯa (meaning "many heads") is a group of large, domed rock formations or bornhardts located about 360 km southwest of Alice Springs, in the southern part of the Northern Territory, central Australia. Uluṟu, located 25 km to the east, and Kata Tjuṯa form the two major landmarks within the Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park. The park is considered sacred to the Aboriginal people of Australia.
The 36 domes that make up Kata Tjuṯa cover an area of 21.68 km2 and are composed of conglomerate, a sedimentary rock consisting of cobbles and boulders of varying rock types including granite and basalt, cemented by a matrix of coarse sandstone. The highest dome, Mount Olga, is 1,066 m above sea level, or approximately 546 m above the surrounding plain (198 m higher than Uluṟu).
There are many Pitjantjatjara Dreamtime legends associated with this place and indeed everything in the vicinity including Uluṟu. A number of legends surround the great snake king Wanambi, who is said to live on the summit of Kata Tjuṯa and only comes down during the dry season. His breath was said to be able to transform a breeze into a hurricane in order to punish those who did evil deeds. The majority of mythology surrounding the site is not disclosed to outsiders, and in particular, women. The Anangu people believe the great rocks of Kata Tjuṯa are homes to spirit energy from the 'Dreaming', and since 1995 the site is being used once again for cultural ceremonies. (Wikipedia)

Waldorf salad, probably. The brainiest salad out there? Maybe for a melting skull that is pondering about The Meaning of Life... It certainly was a surgical challenge to extract a whole, undamaged kernel from those particularly small and hard Brandenburgian walnuts. There are many methods for opening and shelling walnuts and keep the nutmeat intact, and I tried something new after several failed (but delicious and healthy – walnuts are brain food, aren't they?) attempts: I soaked a few nuts in water overnight (to soften the shell) and then used the nutcracker from the top, not along the shelling line like I usually do – for the shelling line I used a knife. Sounds like quite the massacre, I know, but it worked :) As for the ice "cube"... Sorry, but I couldn't resist. I had to buy icecube trays online for this theme anyway, because I don't use ice in beverages (and therefore I didn't have an icecube tray at hand). And when I saw those skull-shaped trays, I knew I had to get them. I also ordered more traditional cube- and orb-shaped ones, so now I'm properly equipped when it comes to all things ice ;)
What I had in mind, of course, was a crystal-clear, perfectly-skulpted skull, and a perfectly placed walnut. At least I got one nicely placed brainy walnut (or nutty brain?) and a fairly recognisable skull out of four attempts. And boy, these ice skulls melt fast (and they move while doing so! Creepy...). I have images where you can see more of the walnut, but by the time more of that was visible, the skull was molten almost beyond recognition. So I chose the image where you can only see a little bit of the "walbrain" emerging from the skull, still covered by a thin layer of ice, and I hope that's enough "In Ice" to qualify for the theme. A rather charming small detail is the tiny (walnut) "hornlet" that appeared on the skull's forehead first – oh dear, who knows whose skull this once was... ;)

Nüsse, ganz besonders Walnüsse, sind ja sehr gesund, Nervennahrung pur, besonders gut für die kleinen grauen Zellen – und ein halber Walnusskern sieht auch noch so aus. Aber eigentlich fing alles ganz harmlos an: Ich wollte was für's Thema machen, da ich aber nie Eiswürfel verwende, hatte ich auch keine entsprechende Form im Haus. Und mangels anderer Beschaffungsmöglichkeiten blieb mir nichts anderes übrig, als mich beim großen Piranha-Fluss umzusehen, wo mir prompt diese Schädelformen angezeigt wurden. Dabei hatte ich doch bloß "Eiswürfelform" eingegeben. Ob das was mit einer Suchanfrage für ein anderes MM-Thema ("Spiky") zu tun haben könnte? Und andere Leute bekommen lustige Tierformen angezeigt, wenn sie nach "Eiswürfelform" suchen? Egal, ich konnte natürlich nicht widerstehen, habe aber Alibi-halber auch noch Würfel- und Kugelformen mitbestellt. Denn wer weiß, was mir demnächst sonst noch auf die harmloseste Suchanfrage vorgeschlagen wird...
Was mir hier natürlich vorschwebte, war ein perfekt geformter, kristallklarer Schädel mit einem darin perfekt platzierten Gehirn, aber das wollte mir als Eiswürfel-Neuling noch nicht so recht gelingen. Immerhin hatte ich am Ende ein Exemplar, bei dem nicht nur der Schädel noch als solcher zu erkennen war, sondern auch noch ein Stück der Walnusshälfte sich in Relation zur Schädelschmelze rechtzeitig aus selbigem herauszuschälen begann (und das charmante kleine "Hörnchen" auf der Stirn hatte sich als Erstes hervorgewagt) – was übrigens einfacher war, als eine unversehrte Walnusshälfte aus zwar sehr schmackhaften, aber auch besonders kleinen und festen Brandenburger Walnüssen herauszuknacken. Eine fürwahr harte Nuss.

A series of cascades located on Falls Creek in Rabun County, Georgia. The waterfalls descend about 60 feet over a stepped rock formation. The falls are near Lake Rabun, within the boundaries of the Chattahoochee National Forest. The name Minnehaha come from the Dakota Sioux Indians meaning “water of the falls” or literally “curling waters”.

The most significant anemone flower meaning is anticipation. This is because the anemone flowers close up at night and open back up in the morning. The barasingha (Cervus duvaucelii), also called swamp deer, is a deer species distributed in the Indian subcontinent. Populations in northern and central India are fragmented, and two isolated populations occur in southwestern Nepal. It is extinct in Pakistan and in Bangladesh.The specific name commemorates the French naturalist Alfred Duvaucel.
The swamp deer differs from all the Indian deer species in that the antlers carry more than three tines. Because of this distinctive character it is designated barasingha, meaning "twelve-tined." Mature stags have 10 to 14 tines, and some have been known to have up to 20.
In the 19th century, swamp deer ranged along the base of the Himalayas from Upper Assam to the west of the Yamuna River, throughout Assam, in a few places in the Indo-Gangetic plain from the Eastern Sundarbans to Upper Sind, and locally throughout the area between the Ganges and Godavari as far east as Mandla.
Swamp deer are mainly grazers. They largely feed on grasses and aquatic plants. They feed throughout the day with peaks during the mornings and late afternoons to evenings. Douglas fir, which has sometimes been called the Douglas tree, Oregon pine, and Douglas spruce, is not actually a true fir, a pine, or a spruce. Indicative of the taxonomic confusion about this tree, the scientific genus name Pseudotsuga means “false hemlock,” alluding to yet another kind of tree somewhat similar to this unique but important tree. Douglas firs are evergreen trees, meaning they keep their needle-like leaves year-round. There are two varieties of this species, coast Douglas fir and Rocky Mountain Douglas fir, which are differentiated by their habitats, growth rates, and physical characteristics.
When Douglas firs grow in dense forests, they self-prune their lower branches so the conical crown starts many stories above the ground. Trees growing in open habitats, especially younger trees, have branches much closer to the ground. Coast Douglas firs are the faster-growing and larger of the two varieties, and they commonly grow up to 250 feet (76 meters) in old-growth forests and can reach five to six feet (1.5 to 1.8 meters) in diameter. Rocky Mountain Douglas firs measure about the same in diameter but only grow up to 160 feet (49 meters).

Hnevank (Armenian: Հնեվանք; meaning "Old Monastery") is a 7th-12th century Armenian Apostolic Church monastery, located near the village of Kurtan in the Lori Province of Armenia. The monastery is situated on a hill within a gorge, near where the Dzoraget and Gargar rivers join.
The monastery was entirely rebuilt by lord Smbat of the House of Orbelian, a branch of the Liparitids who were expelled to Armenia in the late 12th century from Georgia. Liparitids were themselves a branch of the Mamikonians. Smbat was the ancestor of the Armenian princes of Syunik. A Georgian inscription around the drum attests his name.
The monastery has a gavit and various service buildings scattered around the site.
The government of Armenia has recently begun renovating the monastery. The collapsed dome of the main church has been restored entirely.

I've been meaning to come out here for many years to get a night time photo of the lighthouse. The current nearly full moon was a good excuse to make that happen.
This historic structure is on US highway 6. The bridge over the Platte River is where the road rises at the right horizon of the photo.
The name "Linoma" comes from a combination of the names of the nearby cities of Lincoln and Omaha. If you zoom in on the name you'll notice that the "N" is outlined in Red. This mimics the symbol that the University of Nebraska - Lincoln uses for it's sports teams.
A few years ago there was severe flooding along the Platte River which destroyed nearly all of the nearby buildings at Linoma Beach but the Lighthouse survived. The roadway in the foreground was underwater for about a month.
"The base of the lighthouse was a gas station, built in 1938. The 110-foot-tall tower was added the following year. There are ten floors inside, and the builders may have wanted the lighthouse to become a novelty motel, but that never happened. The lighthouse worked as a real lighthouse for years, with a spiral staircase to the top and a bright neon beacon, but it gradually fell into disrepair and was abandoned. Nearing collapse, the lighthouse (and its surrounding RV park) were bought in 2010, and its restoration began in the summer of 2013. Monument Valley (meaning valley of the rocks) is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of sandstone buttes, the largest reaching 300 m above the valley floor. The most famous butte formations are located in northeastern Arizona along the Utah–Arizona state line. The valley is considered sacred by the Navajo Nation, the Native American people within whose reservation it lies.
A 14-mile graded dirt road will show you around most of the major monuments — The Mittens, Three Sisters, John Ford’s Point, Totem Pole, Yei Bi Chai and Ear of the Wind. Navajo guides can lead you deeper, into Mystery Valley, Hunts Mesa and more. A handful of outfits will show you through the area on horseback, just the way people have been exploring it for hundreds of years.
The West and East Mitten Buttes are two buttes in the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park in northeast Navajo County, Arizona. When viewed from the south, the buttes appear to be two giant mittens with their thumbs facing inwards.
The Mittens are about 1km from the Arizona–Utah state line and West. The Mittens form a triangle with Merrick Butte about 1.1 km to the south and, with Sentinel Mesa, a more extensive plateau, towards the northwest.
