The Maynard family was one of the oldest families in Woodbridge. They arrived in the village in the 1830's and many family members worked and resided in the Woodbridge area. Businesses owned and operated by the Maynard family include a Red and White Store and a Variety Store. The Variety Store and Dwelling on Lot 3, Pine Street (pictured above) was run by Mrs. Lydia Maynard, until it was sold to Charles Hollingshead in 1921.

Senator Maynard (center) held a press conference at the home Jim Rigney (third from left) in Preston to explain the rapidly approaching deadlines for Connecticut's residential solar assistance programs and outline the details of a new solar program that will take effect soon. The benefits and savings opportunities of solar panel installations was discussed, along with the benefits of state support for local energy businesses. Beautiful colours but a total horror to focus. This is one lens where I simply dont' believe the focus peaking one little bit.
( 2 of 4 in this set)..... Maynard Colored School is located on Highway 98 just past the junction of Highway 1585 on the left. The school was built on the grounds of the Caney Fork Baptist Church, pictured in the background. Julius Rosenwald, a Caucasian *1862-1932), set aside the Rosenwald Fund to improve the opportunities and living conditions for Negroes in America in 1917. The fund contributed to the building of more than 5,000 rural Negro schools. This is how the present Maynard Colored School came to be. Nate Holder, Charlie Whitney and Henrietta Holder were instrumental in getting the school built. The building is a weather boarded structure with a coat room, kitchen and classroom. Garnett Holder, Jessie Hudson, Clara Whitney, Sarah Hughes and Nintha Shipley Ponds were some of the teachers in the system. The Allen County School Board maintained the school. It was closed in 1933 when the Allen County Colored Schools were consolidated with the city system. At present, the building which housed the school is used for homecomings, anniversaries, and other events of the Caney Fork Church.

The clocktower is a landmark in the town of Maynard, Massachusetts. During the Christmas season, its face is lit with green and red lights. I have additional images of Maynard in my set by that name.
