Artist: Jermaine Maynard
Drip 2010
Photography; 13 x 19 in.
Grade: 12
Teacher: Simone Summers
School: Queens Preparatory Academy
Artist: My art teacher helped me grow as an artist by introducing me to other photographers. Looking at their work helped me with this specific piece; I got a better
idea of how I wanted my work to come out. As a result of taking a photography course, I see things in a whole new light and have found a new interest. I am trying to become as skilled as possible.
Teacher: For this assignment, students researched the philosophy behind the works of photographers Dorothea Lange, Arthur Rothstein, Lorna Simpson, James Van Der Zee, and Carl Van Vechten. Students then selected images to compare to and contrast with their own work. To create their final works, students chose one of their images, changed to grayscale, cropped and recolored. The unit ended with a display and student critiques. I love how Jermaine captured the reflection of lights and darks in this work. He made a single drop of water look so incredibly beautiful.

Wine gums contain no wine. The name comes from the lingering, subtle fruit flavours that make it "similar to the experience of savouring a fine wine". In reference to this, the sweets have the names of alcoholic drinks on them, for example port, sherry, champagne, claret and Burgundy. Also appearing on Maynards' gums are "M" and Maynards.

Beautiful colours but a total horror to focus. This is one lens where I simply dont' believe the focus peaking one little bit.
( 2 of 4 in this set)..... Maynard Colored School is located on Highway 98 just past the junction of Highway 1585 on the left. The school was built on the grounds of the Caney Fork Baptist Church, pictured in the background. Julius Rosenwald, a Caucasian *1862-1932), set aside the Rosenwald Fund to improve the opportunities and living conditions for Negroes in America in 1917. The fund contributed to the building of more than 5,000 rural Negro schools. This is how the present Maynard Colored School came to be. Nate Holder, Charlie Whitney and Henrietta Holder were instrumental in getting the school built. The building is a weather boarded structure with a coat room, kitchen and classroom. Garnett Holder, Jessie Hudson, Clara Whitney, Sarah Hughes and Nintha Shipley Ponds were some of the teachers in the system. The Allen County School Board maintained the school. It was closed in 1933 when the Allen County Colored Schools were consolidated with the city system. At present, the building which housed the school is used for homecomings, anniversaries, and other events of the Caney Fork Church.

The clocktower is a landmark in the town of Maynard, Massachusetts. During the Christmas season, its face is lit with green and red lights. I have additional images of Maynard in my set by that name.
