Renewed road bridge near Maynards Green, carrying West Street Lane over the formation. Just to the south of this bridge, we found what appeared to be the concrete base of a colour light signal (Horam down distant). After looking at a few videos, there is a very brief glimpse of this signal at exactly 6:00 in this fantastic piece of footage and it does indeed appear to be a colour light: www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRRJFSxglUQ I never thought electric colour light signalling was in use on this route, however it would appear as though this was the case.

Charles Fletcher Lummis was an early mentor to Maynard Dixon, who became a lifelong friend. Lummis himself, was well-known in his day as a bon vivant, traveller, historian, journalist, and all round social butterfly. He knew everybody there was to know. He was the Gertrude Stein of the Los Angeles west coast scene in his day.
