Tuskers of Yala N.P, Sri Lanka: Foundly known as "Thilak" he is probably the oldest and largest tusker in the park and spends most of his time towards the entrance of the park, where he can be seen feeding and roaming around. He is a large animal and does have pretty impressive tusks for an Asian Elephant

This is my amazing guy, Maximus. I affectionately call him Moo, or Mooms.

His story:

Some years ago I decided that I wanted to get a little dog. I didn't want a pure-bred, I was looking for a crossbred of some kind. So I found this amazing breeder who crossed two breeds. The dominant of the breed was American Cocker Spaniel.

So out I went with my sons to collect our ONE puppy. We go to the nursey, and they have the litter out, and oh my gosh so cutes. We get to spend time with the one guy we were taking home. Suddenly another tiny runt little fellow climbed up slowly on my oldest son's leg. He was shaky, and he was very small. I was not convinced at all, we came for one!. However after some chatter, and much discussion, we selected two brothers. They would become known as Finnian(Small guy) and Sullivan(who we came for).

While we were there, their grandmother who was a personal dog of the breeder, followed me everywhere. She was a purebred Cocker Spaniel named Ruby.

She was gorgeous, and had been championed out. The breeder loved her so much, she kept her as her personal baby.

I loved her instantly.

So off we go home with our brand new babies, only to return a month later for follow up shots. The breeder was amazing, and did all the shots, and helped these babies get prepped for their life.

When we went for the shots, we saw a little fat juicy puppy alone in a pen. It was mooms. HIs mother, Ruby, had somehow jumped a cage got pregnant and had a litter of babies. She sadly was a terrible mum, and smothered all her pups, except for Moom.

The breeders were very worried because Moom didn't act like a normal pup, and further they had no clue who the dad was, nor did they think he would survive given they had pulled him from being smothered.

They were observing him, and were actually out of kindness thinking of putting him down.

I knew instantly, I knew without a doubt, Moom was mine. I asked the breeder to sell him to me, which of course they refused, given the details of his birth. I was relentless. I took full responsibility, and signed paperwork that if he died it was my responsibility. Very reluctantly they took the same about of money I paid for one of the brothers. This was not a profit for them, they were worried.

So, in effort to help Moom, they set him with an adopted family, so he could drink milk and hopefully grow. The new mother took very good care of Moom, and he was so slowly finding his feet.

I picked Moom up finally at 9 weeks, and he was even fatter, and sweet.

So now having only needing one puppy, we had three. Two brothers, and their Uncle.

Needless to say, Mooms was a bit slower, but he thrived, He became my heart dog. He has followed me through these years, and he has been a wonderful, kind, loving force. When I had him tested for DNA, and what he was, they told me solemnly he was a purebred American Cocker Spaniel.

He looks just like his mama.

Now Mooms has a very terrible tear in his back leg, and it is my humble honor to have it repaired. So in the next few weeks, he will get a metal plate, and be able to walk again without limping.

He deserves it, Afterall he made my life better, its my honor to make his pain free.

How incredibly blessed are we to be selected by these amazing pets as their protectors.

Love you Moom. ♥

Maximus

Gaze into his eyes, oh viewer.

Gaze into his eyes and see the loyalty.

See the abounding love he has.

See the courageous outlook he has.

Hints of the playful puppy he once was

Still linger in his eyes.

Critique:

Describe: In this photo I see the loving and loving and loyal eyes and face of a dog. He’s staring right at me, almost like he’s looking into my soul. He has a beautiful brown and white coat that lightly shines in the sun.

Analyze: In this photo I used several elements and principles of design. His body works as leading lines, leading you up to the focal area of his face. The harsh background creates depth and contrast with his soft fur.

Interpret: In this photo I was trying to express the loyal-ness of a pet. I feel I showed that loyal-ness well.

Judge: 1) I like how the main focal area is his eyes. That’s the most important part to this picture.

2) I like how he’s looking right at the camera, making a real connection with me. 3) I like how his body is slightly out of focus, bringing his face more into focus.

4) I wish I could have got more color/contrast within his eye to make it pop just a little bit more.

The Circus Maximus (Latin for greatest or largest circus, in Italian Circo Massimo) is an ancient Roman chariot racing stadium and mass entertainment venue located in Rome, Italy. This was Rome's largest venue for ludi, public games connected to Roman religious festivals. Situated in the valley between the Aventine and Palatine hills, it was the first and largest stadium in ancient Rome and its later Empire. It measured 621 m (2,037 ft) in length and 118 m (387 ft) in width and could accommodate over 150,000 spectators. In its fully developed form, it became the model for circuses throughout the Roman Empire. The site is now a public park.

The Plains Viscacha or plains vizcacha (Lagostomus maximus) is a species of rodent in the Chinchillidae family. It is the only living species within the genus Lagostomus. It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, and Paraguay. The plains viscacha is the largest species of the family Chinchillidae. They construct elaborate burrows that house successive colonies for decades.

The Asian or Asiatic Elephant (Elephas maximus), sometimes known by the name of one of its subspecies, the Indian Elephant, is one of the three living species of elephant, and the only living species of the genus Elephas. It is the largest living land animal in Asia. The species is found primarily in Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Indochina and parts of Nepal and Indonesia (primarily Borneo), Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, China, Bhutan, and Sumatra. It is considered endangered, with between 41,410 and 52,345 left in the wild

This animal is widely domesticated, and has been used in forestry in South and Southeast Asia for centuries and also in ceremonial purposes. Historical sources indicate that they were sometimes used during the harvest season primarily for milling. Wild elephants attract tourist money to the areas where they can most readily be seen, but damage crops, and may enter villages to raid gardens.
