Integrando as comemorações do 'Momento Itália-Brasil 2011|2012', a instalação 'Máximo Silêncio' chega à Praça Paris, na Glória, após passar por Roma e Madri.
O efeito multicolorido da obra, produzida pelo artista italiano Giancarlo Neri, é composto por 9 mil lâmpadas que mudam de intensidade e cor, variando sincronicamente a cada cinco minutos. A obra permanecerá na praça até o dia 04 de fevereiro.
Inicialmente realizada em 2007 no Circo Máximo, em Roma, onde atraiu mais de 35 mil pessoas em sua abertura, o trabalho foi feito no ano seguinte na Esplanada do Rei, em Madri. Em 2009, o artista fez instalação semelhante em Dubai. “Em cada local é uma situação diferente. A obra interage diretamente com o espaço”, afirma Neri. “Não há nada computadorizado. Uso materiais fáceis, próximos ao kitsch”, diz o artista, que adquiriu as lâmpadas em Xangai, na China.

Maximo - an ancient object of reverence with Mayan origins tempered with Catholic (and anti-Catholic) traditions. He is described as a mixture of the Mayan rain god, Alvarado (the conquistador of Guatemala), and Judas. Hey, I don't make this stuff up, I just report it.
The Maximo in Santiago is a human figure dressed in a black Italian suit wearing a black fedora. He has a cigar in his mouth. Offerings of cigarettes and liquor are made to him, though he prefers tourists to offer quetzales (or, even better, dollars). The room was decorated with maize, coconuts, balloons, sausages, and crepe paper that reminded me of Nepalese prayer flags.
