Maximo was my cubicle-mate for about ten minutes on Monday. He caught my eye when I randomly looked over my shoulder and saw him crawling around the back of my chair, very well contrasted against the black fabric.
I figured that the back of a chair is no place for a little dude like him, so I allowed him to crawl onto my pen so that I could transport him to a more appropriate place: my desk. It took him a good while to find his way off of the pen, being that he wasn't quite enlongated or confident enough to reach the desk surface with his front legs while keeping his hind legs firmly planted on the back.
He must have found his way off because a few minutes later, I noticed that he had found his way to the door of my still-empty cabinets. Maximo's a climber, I tell ya.
Wherever he may be now, godspeed to 'im, whether it may be Jeff's cubicle, underneath my shoe... or heck, the lunch area.
Facts about Maximo Aguian:
First off, Maximo Aguian — manong Max as we called him — is a septuagenarian geodetic engineer who retired in the 80s and went back literally to his roots of being a farmer from working in the concrete jungle of Manila. Second, he and his wife owns the iconic two-hectare rice paddies that you see in the back of a 1,000-peso bill. Third, but not least, the Philippine government named the well-known tourists’ viewpoint in Banaue after him — Aguian Viewpoint.
