Diarrhea is more prevalent throughout the developing world largely due to the lower levels of access to safe drinking water and sanitation, along with poorer overall health, hygiene, and nutritional status.
In this photo we can clearly see an overall theme of indigenous awareness and inclusion. We can observe that the classroom is used as an indigenous gathering center. There is a bright orange poster citing “every child matters”, relating to the legacy of the residential schools as well as their effects on children. The bright orange color used relates to orange shirt day, a day where people across Canada wear orange to recognize and raise awareness about the history of the indigenous community. There is also a sign with handprint decorated with indigenous symbols like the inuksuk. This photo is portraying a space where people, indigenous or not, can go and learn about the history as well as current situation of the indigenous communities across Canada. This makes me feel quite happy of how the education system and people in general are becoming more aware of indigenous communities, there past as well as what they are still victim of. I feel like a dozen years ago, things like the indigenous gathering center would have not existed, because of lack of awareness. This center exists in order to educate and create a safe space for indigenous students because of the various forms of violence they might face on a daily basis. This photo educates students simply by making them aware that this organization exist and provides an opportunity to educate and promote awareness.
