This caricature of Matteo Renzi was adabpted from a Creative Commons licensed photo in the Buy Tourism Online's Flickr photostream.
Another one of my Digital Matte paintings, This would be used as a background plate for a film and is at a film quality resolution. constructed in sketch up pro, textured within photoshop and meticulously hand painted in photoshop, this took around nine days to complete. I also used several photographic elements to create the sky and water. Hope you guys like it. I had to shrink this file to fit as the original came in at 8k

Received a stack of matte cover versions from the publisher and Tall Tales Shorter Days is back on Etsy! If you were waiting to get the book - now is the time, and if you have a previous one, it might just turn into a rarity. The cover is now very soft to the touch almost luxurious... ;-) And the matte colors are perfect on The Gnarled Branch art The Traveling Ghost! No more changes in the foreseeable future! (Working on Grim Happy Christmas 2nd edition today and hope to have some news on that soon too)...

P.S. This switch from gloss to matte is now on Amazon too, and is also true for The Pumpkin Dream - however on the latter I still hope to create a better 2nd edition one of these days since the publisher only offers stark white for the interior pages of color books...

The image is made up of a photo of Cairo (foreground,) a photo of Florence, a bomber, and a missle. All of the photos were taken during the day and turned into a night scene.
I painted in the fires, lamps, smoke, and lights.

Il castello comunemente definito “Rocchetta Mattei” deve il suo nome al Conte Cesare Mattei (1809-1886) che lo fece edificare sulle rovine di una antica costruzione risalente all’XIII secolo, la Rocca di Savignano, appartenuto probabilmente a Matilde di Canossa.
La struttura del castello fu modificata più volte dal conte durante la sua vita, rendendola un labirinto di torri, scalinate monumentali, sale di ricevimento, camere private che richiamano stili diversi, dal medievale al moresco, dal liberty al gotico.

Yes this is a digital painting.
This image was created as part of the CG Tantra matte painting challenge.
As part of the competition we were given three photographic plates. We had to use a specific one. The only other stipulation was we had to use elements from the other photographs. No other textures or images were allowed we had a further rule that it should stay a same res.
I modelled the deck in sketchup, then using a paintover as integrated 3d was banned. This what the outcome was, we only had three weeks to do it in.
Anyhow, this as far as I got, textures painting and tons of photoshop. 20 hrs work, image came in at 2 GB as a large doc format painitng.
