Matt and i shot this on some random Saturday, we didn't really have any spots in mind for that day! So we ended up at this ledge with no expectations. It was just Matt & Myself this day, no filmer this day.. Just him and i like a lot of the skate missions we went on together.. Anyway, I started warming up skating the ledge and thought to myself since i've already filmed one to backside fakie in my Digital "Smoke & Mirrors" Video Part!
Why not try an shuvit or big spin out of it.. One of the many great qualities i loved about Matt, he always knew when i was ready.. Never had to ask him or anything, we were a team and always worked so well together! So.. as i'm starting to get the feel of the trick more, he already had his camera ready to go..
It all started out trying the trick and getting into the backside tailslides pretty quick just needed to get that shuvit out... Less than 15 tries later i found myself riding away from this trick..On the first one i stuck. Surprising myself and Matt. He shot the sequence well and it ended up being used in the #SkateboarderMag When usually mag's were looking for still photos, but every sequence Matt and i ever shot and he would submit to Mag's.. Nearly every sequence we ever shot was used and ended up in a skateboarding magazine.. Him and i were very like minded and he was always up to shoot photos, we fed off of each others energy etc and yet shared so many great memories together, we traveled the world together. It was usually him and i that would bunk up on trips.. He lived local to me. Our friendship was way more than just skateboarding!
I could easily write a book strictly based on our skate-adventures. Matt was like a big brother to me and believed in me during the times i needed it the most.
Still can't believe It's been 4yrs since Matt's passing! Not a day goes by where i don't think about him. I have an entire photo album that's just dedicated to him and our skate trips, photos etc. His laughter was so contagious! #RIP #MattMecaro I Love You! Forever Rolling In Our Hearts!
This ended up@bring my first check out in a skateboarding magazine! People forget how tough and narrow at the top the thing is.. Growing watching all the Plan B videos etc, to be able and film, shoot. Sequence here and ride away from it… I’ll always remember this day like yesterday! Let’s Not Forget The Feeling Of Rolling Away From A Trick After You’ve Battled… This Was Our 5th Attempt Back Here. We’d Start Setting Up The Lights Etc, Prior.. Then I’d Skate Down The Street To Warm Up And Did That On Everytime We Went Back. Our Light Attracted Alot Of Attention Obviously And Is Why Some Missions The 12 Would Show Up! Of Course… Right As Everything Was Set-Up & Ready To Go.., But If It Wasn’t For All The Homies There To Help, Wouldn’t Be Possible! Funny Thing Was That The Nose-slide Wasn’t The Actual Hardest Part… It Was, Run, Skate, all The Way! So Much Went Into The Process Of Making This Happen!
