In math workshop, students are learning there are multiple tools, or strategies, one can use to solve problems. The children know we can solve math questions through sketching, acting out the problem, or using objects (like blocks) to represent ideas. One strategy is not privileged above the others; we encourage each child to use the tool(s) that works best for him/her. This is problem solving through sketching.
