I have two apples, two bananas, and two oranges. You give me two tomatoes and two peppers.

How many fruits do I have?

A. Ten. Peppers and tomatoes are fruits.

B. Six. You can’t make me eat vegetables disguised as fruit.

C. None. Those are miniatures, not real fruits… and this is just a picture.

D. All of the above. (I have commitment issues.)

Created for the We’re Here group’s observation that math is everywhere.

I cannot even describe how much I love this quilt. to me it's like a study of contrasting themes:

-symmetry and asymmetry

-predictability and randomness

-consonance and dissonance

I could go on, but I'll spare you the strange journey into my psyche.

I'll just say that Chawne is the best ever, and I can't believe she quilted something so amazing for me. did I mention she hand sewed the backing? holy dedication batman!

So thanks C, I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!

My seventh and eighth grade math teachers said it more than once: "You have to learn math! You'll never be able to carry a calculator around with you everywhere!"

Well, I proved them wrong! Built-in calculator! Math is everywhere in We're Here! today.

(but the "you'll never have a calculator" thing is my favorite thing about the "future", we carry the entire internet in our pockets now! Calculators included!)

On this TLR 105mm is similar to 55mm in 35mm full format, or something...

Maths is everywhere, but We're Here...

Hand-held & manually focused with the terribly modern wobble-vision technique. Remote-triggered Speedlite on a stick.

Heat + Waximass + WhatTheHeck = Glorious Mathematical Wonder & Beauty...

We're Here & thinking about math; period...

Tripod-mounted & lit from directly above & behind by a Speedlite on a stick firing into an absurdly cheap reflective brolly.

At least, that's what today's theme is in We're Here!.

My favorite math-related thing is the fact that when I was in school (way back in the 1970s/80s), our teachers would say things like: "You have to learn how to do this ridiculously difficult shit because you won't be able to carry a calculator in your pocket everywhere you go." (I'm paraphrasing). Every time I reach into my pocket to get my iPhone out, I chuckle to myself.

Don't get me wrong, I did the same thing when I had an Android phone. I just happen to have an iPhone now.

The exterior of the Mathematics Association of America, with an interesting brick pattern.

This photo highlights the details on the side of a school building in Prague, Czechia. The figure in the archway is Pythagoras, as can be seen from him holding the traditional symbol of how he proved him theorem, a^2 + b^2 = c+2 in a right triangle. As a math major, I was delighted to see this walking down the street in Prague!
