I don't know what this Red-necked Grebe is transporting, it almost looks like a dirty net of some kind, but it ends up part of the grebe's nest. Makes sense!
Thought I'd give the ole 2X tele a try with the 600 and the new R5. I was curious to see how that combination works together and I think it looks great! What do you think?

Their long fine beaks allow them to extract otherwise inaccessible seeds from thistles and teasels. Not that you can see it in this image. LOL

Here's a Red-shouldered Hawk on its way to the nest with some additional nesting material. I believe that the Florida Red-shouldered breed earlier than the species in other parts of the country. Once site had them breeding from January to May when general reference books state the species breed from May to July. In any event, I'm hoping that they are not just faking us out and that we have some new chicks to celebrate. In the course of my reading I learned that the females are larger than the males (probably smarter too) and that the pair are monogamous. Having said that, I've never been able to see the size difference but will pay more attention in the future. Happy 2023 everyone. (Buteo lineatus)

I had a good morning with the Cormorant a few weeks ago. Photographers’ (me included) are oft heard exclaiming “Look at that light!” . When I was teaching birds in flight one of my suggestions was to find a background that might get a good subject. Subjects are like magnets, and for good reason, and act as the siren song luring the camera away from the gold. In this case, the light reflecting on the water was where there was a good chance I might get a cormorant bringing home nesting material. They were working hard that morning, usually flying too far above the water, but there was a chance. And yes, I hit gold a few times, this being one of my favorites. (Double-crested Cormorant – Nannopterum auritum) (Sony a1, 400mm, f/2.8, 1/2500 second, ISO 2000)

Common Moorhen, Swamp Chicken, Gallinula chloropus, Tiong Air
The common moorhen lives around well-vegetated marshes, ponds, canals and other wetlands. They gives a wide range of gargling calls and will emit loud hisses when threatened. This species will consume a wide variety of vegetable material and small aquatic creatures. They forage beside or in the water, sometimes walking on lilypads or upending in the water to feed. They are often secretive, but can become tame in some areas. Despite loss of habitat in parts of its range, the common moorhen remains plentiful and widespread.

La actual iglesia fue construida a principios del siglo XII, sobre los restos de un edificio paleocristiano anterior, erigido hacia el siglo V o VI y restaurado después del 793. La nueva iglesia, de estilo románico, se construyó hacia 1110, reutilizándose parcialmente Materiales de construcción previos. Después del terremoto de 1117, se levantaron los muros perimetrales y el ábside; A finales de siglo se completó la iglesia con la adición del crucero, galerías de mujeres y torres cilíndricas. Las dos fases constructivas diferentes (1110 y poste 1117) son reconocibles por la diferencia entre la mampostería inferior, con guijarros de río dispuestos en forma de espiga que alternan con hileras de toba y terracota, y la superior donde solo la toba y el cocido.
