*Working Towards a Better World

I have been thinking long and hard about why our present day psyche has changed so drastically and have come to the conclusion that we are bringing up our children to focus on the ego, rather than the community. It seems to me that we put too much emphasis on material things and not enough on the spiritual or the whole. Yes, we need to teach our children to succeed and do their best but not at any cost without caring about others. We seem to encourage greed rather than sharing, perhaps we need to concentrate more on cherishing each other, our climate and the environment. When we work as a team we produce more through the sharing of ideas and creativity.

We need to coexist better, be more understanding, less critical, more open, less closed. Together we can achieve a great deal more than alone.

I have chosen the colours black and green because of their meaning found on the Color Pro: Color Meaning website:

www.color-wheel-pro.com/color-meaning.html

"Green

Green is the color of nature. It symbolizes growth, harmony, freshness, and fertility. Green has strong emotional correspondence with safety. Dark green is also commonly associated with money.

Green

"Green has great healing power. It is the most restful color for the human eye; it can improve vision. Green suggests stability and endurance. Sometimes green denotes lack of experience; for example, a 'greenhorn' is a novice. In heraldry, green indicates growth and hope. Green, as opposed to red, means safety; it is the color of free passage in road traffic.

Use green to indicate safety when advertising drugs and medical products. Green is directly related to nature, so you can use it to promote 'green' products. Dull, darker green is commonly associated with money, the financial world, banking, and Wall Street.

Dark green is associated with ambition, greed, and jealousy.

Yellow-green can indicate sickness, cowardice, discord, and jealousy.

Aqua is associated with emotional healing and protection.

Olive green is the traditional color of peace".

Black

"Black is associated with power, elegance, formality, death, evil, and mystery.

Black is a mysterious color associated with fear and the unknown (black holes). It usually has a negative connotation (blacklist, black humor, 'black death'). Black denotes strength and authority; it is considered to be a very formal, elegant, and prestigious color (black tie, black Mercedes). In heraldry, black is the symbol of grief".

Black gives the feeling of perspective and depth, but a black background diminishes readability. A black suit or dress can make you look thinner. When designing for a gallery of art or photography, you can use a black or gray background to make the other colors stand out. Black contrasts well with bright colors. Combined with red or orange – other very powerful colors – black gives a very aggressive color scheme.

Interestingly I have followed a few articles written by the New York Times columnist, David Brooks, who has written recently 3 interesting articles about this subject, On April 7th he wrote an article entitled

"What Candidates Need",

www.nytimes.com/2015/04/07/opinion/david-brooks-what-cand...

then on April 11th he wrote an article entitled

"The Moral Bucket List"

www.nytimes.com/2015/04/12/opinion/sunday/david-brooks-th...

and finally today he wrote an article entitled

"When Cultures Shift"

www.nytimes.com/2015/04/17/opinion/david-brooks-when-cult...

I find that David addresses many of my concerns quite well in these articles so decided to share them with you.

Thank you for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day! xo❤️

Or: the most mythical imaginary meme ever

Tagged by Kogepanic who was tagged by Sarah Loves Tomatoes and Katie-Chan by way of Abby who created this really cute tag/meme idea! Take quick pictures (as is) around your home / various stuffs that are NOT dolls or humans!

1. Huge smiley face clock purchased in Venice, CA my first year in L.A. it makes me smile everytime I look at it because its so silly.

2. Custom light switch plates I bought in Austin, I think they add a little grooviness to the apt.

3. Thornsbury my water succulent plant (which is actually 3 plants) but one entity, I sing and talk to Thornsbury everyday and water him on Thursdays only .

4. My parents vintage Janica radio, this was a gift from my dad to my mom while they were dating and my mom let me have it while I was living in Dallas.

5. Old vintage Pity Kitty & Pity Puppy lamp given to me on my birthday from Cullen last year in Dallas, we found it at a vintage shop and I just had to have it.

6. One of my favorite postcards that I framed by the artist Yoshitomo Nara.

7. The Holiday Tree, I love decorating for the holidays so instead of completely redoing the house in seasonal decor I promised Cullen I'd contain my "enthusiasm" to just this tree.

8. Ikea containers that I have in the kitchen containing spices my mother gave me before I left Texas.

9. Lovely tin poster/keepsake which I bought in Fredricksburg,TX, purchased on one of our trips there when we lived in Austin. I bought 3 of them but this one is my favorite because it's a constant reminder of the world I live in.

Tagging a few friends who might play. Maybe... :D

that have magically found themselves to be placed like this.

Other things to be found in my balcony.

One spanish sunflower, that I'm very proud of it. Resilient little creature to survive in Bombay's harsh haze.

I had laid my eyes on this cutie pie a long, long time ago.

And finally I have it on my hand!

Amazing, I have what I want.

In fact services in Holland are expensive as b!tch, so

instead of inking my skin I rewarded myself with this wonderful piece of greenness.

I'm a bit disappointed with this because it's quite far removed from my original intentions.

I lost a massive contract at the end of last year so my income has taken a beating. This image was intended to show that I miss being able to buy pretty things and treat myself. Last night my boyfriend said that I looked like I was half-heartedly reaching for the objects in the photograph. Then I got to thinking that it reflects true life in a way - these 'pretty things' have become less important to me as I've been forced to live more frugally. I've always savoured the simple things but even more so now.

Sooo, I've posted this because in a wierd way it turned out exactly as it was meant to!

Ooh, also, I've been using this texture quite a bit recently but I stupidly forgot to note where I got it from. So sorry about that - I'll hunt it down and then edit this once I've tracked it down again!

Are you wondering what we should ask from God when we visit any temple? There are different worshipping places for different Gods of various religions.

Pujya Deepakbhai suggests that we should ask God to bless us, such that we can realize our own Soul. The Gods have realized and experienced their Soul. We should pray that we should also experience the Soul the way they have done. Asking for any worldly thing will not help, because you have brought along your karmic account and things will happen accordingly.

But you can change your intent, make Self-realization your intent and ask God to bless you with meeting a Gnani Purush (the Enlightened One) who can enlighten you as well.

Allah says, “Never will you attain the good until you spend from that

which you love. And whatever you spend – indeed, Allahis Knowing of

it.” [Quran 3: 92]

Think about that. Allah is telling us to give away the things that we

love the most! SubhanAllah! Why does Allah ask this of us? Is it to

liberate us from slavery to material possessions? To f0cus our minds

on Allah and the aakhirah (hereafter)? To prevent the evil that

results from the love of money? To benefit the poor?

Yes, for all of those reasons. Excessive attachment to any

materialthing is misguidance. The love of possessions is a spiritual

trap.

I have at times given away things that were precious to me, thinking

they wouldmean as much to the otherperson as they do to me. Sometimes

they do, and sometimes they don’t, and yes it hurts my feelings when

the other person doesn’t value my gift; but eventually I get over it,

because the point is the actof giving. And maybe – Insha-Allah – I’ll

have something to show Allah on Yawm Al-Qiyamah (the Day of

Resurrection), maybe I’ll be able to say, “O Allah, I gave away

thesethings that I loved,” and maybe that will earn me some

forgiveness, Allah knows.

There is a powerful spiritual lesson in taking anobject that you love,

and giving it away. I remembera middle-aged brother named AbdulKareem

(Damis-Salaam, for those ofyou who know him). He worked hard,

supported a family, and got by on a tight budget. One time he got a

nice brown leather coat, the long kind that comes down to the knees.

It looked good on him. Then a younger brother, a teenager with poor

manners, said, “Man, that’s a cool coat. Can I have it?” Without a

word, AbdulKareem took off the coat and gave it to the teenager.

There’s such a strength of character, such freedom from attachment, in

being able to do that. That was 27 years ago and I imagine that

AbdulKareem (who is an old man now) has forgotten all about it. But

Allah sees and remembers./
