I don't know what this Red-necked Grebe is transporting, it almost looks like a dirty net of some kind, but it ends up part of the grebe's nest. Makes sense!
Thought I'd give the ole 2X tele a try with the 600 and the new R5. I was curious to see how that combination works together and I think it looks great! What do you think?

Inspired and intrigued by this series event, also known as the golden compass, created this ;-) It's the "magic knife" series. Note: If you cut through to my photo, you must close the window again, otherwise you can never go back!! ;-) then always is winter and nothing blooms in orange!
Before you ask how I did it, I don't know anymore! My time is usually short, only sometimes I have time to play with Photoshop. I would have to write down the individual steps, but that would be boring, because then everything would always be the same. Anyway, I hope you like it ;-)

Do we need this kind of photographer? I'm afraid not. A few will survive as the masters of photography, and the others will become the worker bees - supplying the basic material to be plastered on magazine pages or to play around with on the screen.

I am very lucky to have some Ravens who sit in trees around my house from time to time. These birds are rare in my part of the world as old superstitions nearly had them wiped out completely by overzealous medieval hunters. I was taking this pic as one of them started to call out, fitting considering the theme of this image. The saying is quite an old one, related to battlefields.

Taken from a clifftop looking down on breaking waves and cormorants trying to make a nest.
Sunny here this afternoon after a grey morning.
Polperro is a beautiful little fishing village on the south coast of Cornwall, with Looe about four miles to the east and Fowey a similar distance to the west. Its ancient cottages seem to cling to the hillsides, which provide a rich source of material for the photographer. Cars are not allowed into Polperro and there is a car park up the hill at the edge of the village. The £5 fee for just three hours is perhaps a little on the steep side.
This Great Blue Heron was delivering a small twig to the nest as filler to cover the gaps between the larger branches.

Mangrove Swallow gathers nesting materials in March near the shore of Crooked Tree Lagoon. Funny Story: this guy sat there and kept eyeing the bigger stick you see in front of him. He finally dropped the small pieces of grass and flew off with the bigger stick which was nearly two feet long! I'm sure the Mrs. was impressed.
During the breeding season, the northern gannets (Morus bassanus), seen here on the German North Sea island of Heligoland, are highly dedicated to continuously transporting materials for their nest hollow. This is conveniently carried out using the bird's beak. The partner gratefully receives the materials in an elaborate greeting ceremony.
