Sorry for the long delay - it’s been many months since I’ve posted. I am back, and am going to try posting a photo a day for as long as I have photos ready to go, so let’s get started!
This is a focus-stack of approximately 30 images. The flower was about 1.5 inches in diameter. It was cut from the garden and brought inside into a studio setup. Lit with a single speedlite through a white umbrella, with a reflector on the opposite side for fill. Manually focus-stacked using a macro rail and cable release. Helicon Focus used to combine the exposures, then Photoshop for cleanup and final editing.

thought i'd take the overlays i've done so far and put them in a mosaic. the lower right corner is the "base" ducky that the textures were overlaid upon. some came out more successfully than others. i am not sure exactly which ones are my favorites and i think i've pretty much mastered this skill ~grin~

“Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear - not absence of fear.”
(Mark Twain - American Writer, 1835-1910)
Among the many children I met at Guria, this one might be the only one who didn't smile to me.
He was wondering who I was, maybe he was scared even though he seemed to be brave.
He was holding this younger boy in his arms, I don't know if he was his brother, anyway Guria is a place where I felt a real brotherhood among all the children.
When I asked their names I realized that they were from several religions.
Guria is a Human Rights organisation in Varanasi (Benaras) fighting against the sexual exploitation of women and children, particularly those forced into prostitution and trafficking.
Guria means doll in Hindi.
Manju and her husband Ajeet Singh are running this non-profit organisation at great personal risk, providing shelter and hope to many children.
They need any kind of help (money, food, toys, clothes,...) in order to carry on their task.
They are facing many difficulties from all those who would like to use those children as a second generation prostitution.
A few days ago they were nominated for the 2010 Front Line Award, an international foundation for the protection of Human Rights defenders.
Manju and Ajeet Singh are modern heroes, this is why I decided to upload a few pictures connected to their work.
There are many ways to help and give a kind of support to Guria, this is its website, www.guriaindia.org and you may contact Manju and Ajeet at guriaajeet@rediffmail.com

In many cases I prefer to wear full camouflage outfits for photographing wildlife. One of the primary reasons is that it reduces the stress that is put upon the animal, which I believe is critical for ethical wildlife photography. This has the added benefit of resulting in more natural behavior.
Camo also lets you get very close to the creature, allowing an intimate view into their world and a more connected experience. I also prefer to lay prone on the ground for small animals as it creates a much more artistic and pleasing image, in my opinion.
This photo required considerable physical and mental effort to obtain, but it was well worth the experience and the resulting image. I used a Skimmer Pod with a gimbal head, for this very low angle of view, and the ability to slide the rig on the ground as I crawled in position.

Unofficial name: "Wonder Boy"
Name: Troye Drakos
Age: 16
Affiliation: Hero
Species: Amazon Human
Abilities: Increased Strength, Speed, Stamina, Agility, the power to walk across water and mastery of several forms of armed and unarmed combat, also are the personalised gifts of the goddesses of Olympus; hunting skills (Artemis), warm/home skills (Hestia), Unbeknownst wisdom (Athena) and beauty inside and out (Aphrodite)
Weakness: Trust issues
Troye’s story is propelled forward from before his birth. A man from the outside world had been washed up on a secluded cove on the Amazon Island alone and weak he was discovered by one of the Amazons. Her name was Euryleia a wanderer who would often leave the kingdom to explore the island, usually gone for weeks at a time. She was a kind woman, sworn off from violence preferring the comfort of peace in nature and knowledge in writing. Seeing the man so weak and helpless made herself sympathise with him, knowing of the bloodshed the Amazonians had faced years ago she tended to his wounds in hopes of reviving him. But she took him from the shore away from those who may find him as if they did she know he would not be allowed to live. Once he gained consciousness in the days that followed she talked with him sharing their stories as he recovered to pass time. She discovered his name was Reagan Drakos a fisherman who’d got caught in a cyclone downing his boat and getting him washed out to sea, he had no relatives and lived a solitary life through their discussions. Through time the two grew close and in secret their love bloomed.
Several months had passed and a child was born, being one of the first in a long time in Amazon history. But Euryleia was blessed with a boy; Born a male into a society of woman the newborn dubbed Troye by his father would have been considered an abomination to the inhabitants of Themyscira if his existence was discovered along with his father. With an Amazon mother and a human father he was kept in secret within one of the few places Hippolyta does not know of in the depths of the jungles. He grew with his father away from outside contact; only with that of his mother would go to see him often teaching him new things with each visit. He soon learnt to read and write with his father’s help and hunt and fight with his mother. Though the outside world was a mystery to him and he knew not of what was beyond the boundaries his parents had created for him. But as he was young and rather reckless one night when he was 9 and when his mother was away to keep up appearances in the kingdom and his father was asleep, he crept away and through the boundaries they had created. Sneaking through the jungles of the island he soon found a flickering source of light he’d identify as fire, something he didn’t see often as Mother had said that it would attract people he would not like to meet. In curiosity Troye followed the light source until he came across a magnificent sight. Huge stone structures like those he’d seen in the books his Mother had given him and rivers and waterfalls snaking in between them and above all from his hiding spot just at the edge of the open area were people. Woman all dressed in armour and robes walking and talking in the night. He’d never seen so many people. And from his spot he saw his Mother talking with somebody down below. Not knowing the consequences of his actions Troye stood up from his place and walked straight out and into plain sight from all around. Suddenly the slight silence from before just stopped, being replaced with that of a different kind, a more sinister kind that just hung in the air.
“Man!”
The word was shouted loud and clear breaking the silence. He saw his Mother’s head whip round a face of horror placed upon her head. ‘Run’ she mouthed. Troye darted round an arrow embedding itself in the ground of where he stood. He ran back to his father, again with thinking with the Amazon warriors close behind, he was a man in place where it was forbidden to be so and was leading them to his father, someone who would surely be gutted when seen.
“Father!” Troye cried as he entered their clearing running towards the small hut he lived in with his Father. The wind was knocked from his body before he could reach it, someone had caught up to him and had tackled him to the ground.
“You do not belong here, male!” The Amazon warrior spat. She had a knife in her hand and it was soon raised above his throat. She began to bring down the knife but was kicked away by someone else. His Mother, she was here to save him! But soon other Amazons quickly arrived outnumbering his Mother and surrounding the area. His Father was outside now too clutching his own knife, snarling at the warrior woman. Troye at this point was digging around in the leaves, he had his own dagger he’d kept on the forest floor, and he hoped he’d help his parents fend of the others. But before anything could happen she arrived. Hippolyta, Troye only learnt who she was later but at this moment things happened very fast. With silent commands from her the Amazons lowered their weapons.
“Euryleia” She spoke his Mother’s name and silence followed, staring right at her with eyes like knives. That look said everything.
“And my sisters! You should no better, the boy is merely a child, he knows not of who he is or who we are, we are not to kill him as he has done us no wrong. But his Father can die.” She ordered and suddenly a sword pierced his Fathers chest, in unison his Mother and him cried no. She fell to her knees as he fell to the ground.
“How could you!” She shrieked at Hippolyta.
“How could you!”
“Silence Euryleia! You have broken are most sacred rules and beliefs, you are not our sister, and your son does not belong here either” Hippolyta interrupted Troye’s Mother. Troye doesn’t recall what followed but key parts are vivid in his memory, his Mother being carried off, the looks he got from the warriors and the talk Hippolyta gave him, explaining everything, but only increasing his knowledge that the reasons for what happened made no sense. His memory than fades.
He was brought to Hephaestus’ realm and made to work in his forges as one of his slaves. Though he was kept alone from the others, a punishment Hippolyta had probably devised, he’d been kept from others his entire life, and this was no difference. He was alone, but even more than ever before.
He thought he would’ve been kept there for the rest of his days that may have been considerably short with how he had been treated, until someone appeared to free them, He’d been there 6 years and he was about to be free. The other slaves called her Wonder Woman as he joined them in the sunlight that blinded him after being kept in the darkness for so long. She led them away, leading the charge against Hephaestus’ creations and guards, joined by Troye and the other slaves in their fight for freedom.
After the smoke had cleared and all had calmed, Troye approached the warrior with caution. She was polishing a sword at the time preparing to leave for man’s world. Troye told her of his father and how he had never seen man’s world, a world he was part of. She smiled upon him and they talked and learnt of each other. And Diana agreed to take Troye to man’s world to find his own way in the world outside. But he kept his Amazon heritage from her, not trusting her completely despite what he thought of her as someone he could trust. He came to man's world to learn of his father and to find his way in life. What he would do, what he should do and what he could do were questions that plague him not knowing what path he should follow.
Following after Wonder Woman he stopped injustice in his own way, but kept his focus on the discovery of the foreign world, again still not sure what he's doing in his search, but because of his acts he was given the nickname from the public ‘Wonder Boy’, because of his choice of armed defence and height, a name he’s not to fond of.
Online education is still a relatively new concept, and in many respects still in the teething stages.Online education form of learning that suits them best. Some individuals achieve fantastic results in courses taught online, however most people drop out of 100% computer-led courses. Educational institutions, as well as companies in carrying out staff training, must recognize that there is no ideal way to carry out the teaching of a large group of individuals, and so must design programs that best suits the needs of the group as a whole.

"After achieving mastery of a single spaceship, the astronaut will probably develop skills in traveling between space vehicles so that he can repair unmanned weather or communications satellites or construct space platforms. It is likely that he will be able to move in a lightweight space suit."
A little odd/Rube Goldberg-like - no docking capability? Amusing nonetheless. To me, the illustration doesn't look like a generic effort. The nice detail leads me to believe it was possibly by/for some company "in the running" for a contract at the time.
Note the old-fashioned rope hand holds within the “transfer tube”.
Per another caption from September 12, 1960. Being associated with General Electric is support for Roy Scarfo as the responsible artist::
“TUNNEL FOR SPACE HOGS — Engineers at General Electric's Missile and Space Vehicle Department have proposed this flexible, tunnel-like device for providing passage from ship to ship in space. Resembling cassions used by sand hogs in tunneling under rivers, the device would consist of a pressure tight, non-rigid tube or cylinder supported by stiffening rings. Spacemen, who might be called “space hogs," could also use the device to provide a pressurized area in which they could work on the exterior of their vehicles unencumbered by bulky space suits. The flexibility of the device would allow the "space hog" to place it over any part of the vehicle that needed work. When not in use it would be collapsed and stored in the space ship's air lock.”
Furthermore, according to this, and a few other sites, this is the work of Roy Scarfo:

The Selimiye Mosque (Turkish: Selimiye Camii) is an Ottoman imperial mosque, which is located in the city of Edirne, Turkey. The mosque was commissioned by Sultan Selim II, and was built by architect Mimar Sinan between 1569 and 1575. It was considered by Sinan to be his masterpiece and is one of the highest achievements of Islamic architecture.
This grand mosque stands at the center of a külliye (complex of a hospital, school, library and/or baths around a mosque) which comprises a medrese (Islamic academy teaches both Islamic and scientific lessons), a dar-ül hadis (Al-Hadith school), a timekeeper's room and an arasta (row of shops). In this mosque Sinan employed an octagonal supporting system that is created through eight pillars incised in a square shell of walls. The four semi domes at the corners of the square behind the arches that spring from the pillars, are intermediary sections between the huge encompassing dome (31.25 metres (102.5 feet) diameter with spherical profile) and the walls.
While conventional mosques were limited by a segmented interior, Sinan's effort at Edirne was a structure that made it possible to see the mihrab from any location within the mosque. Surrounded by four tall minarets, the Mosque of Selim II has a grand dome atop it. Around the rest of the mosque were many additions: libraries, schools, hospices, baths, soup kitchens for the poor, markets, hospitals, and a cemetery. These annexes were aligned axially and grouped, if possible. In front of the mosque sits a rectangular court with an area equal to that of the mosque. The innovation however, comes not in the size of the building, but from the organization of its interior. The mihrab is pushed back into an apse-like alcove with a space with enough depth to allow for window illumination from three sides. This has the effect of making the tile panels of its lower walls sparkle with natural light. The amalgamation of the main hall forms a fused octagon with the dome-covered square. Formed by eight massive dome supports, the octagon is pierced by four half dome covered corners of the square. The beauty resulting from the conformity of geometric shapes engulfed in each other was the culmination of Sinan's lifelong search for a unified interior space.
At the Bulgarian siege of Edirne in 1913, the dome of the mosque was hit by Bulgarian artillery. Owing to the dome's extremely sturdy construction, the mosque survived the assault with only minor damage. On Mustafa Kemal Pasha's order, it has not been restored since then, to serve as a warning for future generations.[citation needed] Some damage can be seen on the image of the dome above, at and near the dark red calligraph to the immediate left of the central blue area.
The mosque was depicted on the reverse of the Turkish 10,000 lira banknotes of 1982-1995.The mosque, together with its külliye, was included on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2011.
An elaborate ode to the technicolour mastery of Zhang Yimou's, "Curse Of The Golden Flower", presents itself before you now. My tactile production of this epic big screen blend of martial arts action with Shakespearean melodrama is (similarly) a detailed study in sumptuous colours; and an intricate mesh of woven coils leading to nowhere and everywhere.

Truly a spectacle too beautiful to look away from, THE TALE OF AN EMPRESS weaves sensuously around your neck from 19" to 23". That irrefutably flamboyant pendant portion (intentionally reminiscent of Empress Phoenix's elaborate haedpieces) drops just shy of 3.75" and yet, retains an air of delicacy making it exceedingly lithe and wearable. Wire and chains are 14K Yellow and Rose Gold Filled matched with 925 Sterling Silver.

The Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras (Filipino: Mga Hagdan-Hagdang Palayan ng Kordilyera ng Pilipinas; Ifugao: Payew) were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1995, the first-ever property to be included in the cultural landscape category of the World Heritage List. This inscription has five sites: the Batad Rice Terraces, Bangaan Rice Terraces (both in Banaue), Mayoyao Rice Terraces (in Mayoyao), Hungduan Rice Terraces (in Hungduan) and Nagacadan Rice Terraces (in Kiangan), all in the Ifugao Province, the Philippines. The Ifugao Rice Terraces reach a higher altitude and were built on steeper slopes than many other terraces. The Ifugao complex of stone or mud walls and the careful carving of the natural contours of hills and mountains to make terraced pond fields, coupled with the development of intricate irrigation systems, harvesting water from the forests of the mountain tops, and an elaborate farming system.
The Ifugao Rice Terraces illustrate the remarkable ability of human culture to adapt to new social and climate pressures as well as to implement and develop new ideas and technologies. Although listed by the UNESCO as a World Heritage site believed to be older than 2,000 years, there are some conflicting recent studies that report they may be less than 1,000 years old.
Maintenance of the living rice terraces reflects a primarily cooperative approach of the whole community which is based on detailed knowledge of the rich diversity of biological resources existing in the Ifugao agro-ecosystem, a finely tuned annual system respecting lunar cycles, zoning and planning, extensive soil conservation, and mastery of a complex pest control regime based on the processing of a variety of herbs, accompanied by religious rituals.
