Let me tell you the fascinating and dramatic story of this bird island on the west coast of Norway. In the year 1725 a ship from the Netherlands descended here. The ship was loaded with gold. The gold treasure was later found by divers. The island "Runde" has only 150 inhabitants. But every summer, more than 150,000 seabirds come here to nest. And tourists from all over Europe come here, either to experience this adventure or to find remnants of the gold treasure... Thanks for your visit and comments, my Flickr friends):

in a black window, a gramophone waits. a silent thing of wood and polished brass. it is a memory of a sound that no longer exists. the wall is gray. the sidewalk is gray. the city is a place of muted colors. then, a woman walks past. her hair and her shirt are the color of a fire. a single, loud, red note in the quiet street. for a fraction of a second, she aligns with the golden horn; the living color and the silent machine. it is a brief, accidental harmony. then she is gone.

The bell tower was built between 1688 and 1705 by Juan Bautista Viñes, whose name is engraved on a commemorative tombstone that we can see at its base. A masterpiece of Valencian Baroque, it has a hexagonal floor plan, and its elevation is divided into four floors separated by moldings, plus the body of bells and the upper finish. Originally, it was called a Solomonic bell because of the helical columns that adorn this upper part. It also stands out for the projections like pilasters that adorn its corners and for the decoration of its windows, where the ephemeral Baroque decorative style was transferred masterfully to stone.

Oooh its starting to get a bit chilly here in Sydney now - its a funny thing as you look out and everything looks the same as in summer and it is only up in the Blue Mountains that you get a visual change in the seasons. Another shot from my jaunt in to the country last weekend. It would be lovely to have this colour and mist down here in Sydney .

From Prince's lyrics "Let's Go Crazy". He was a masterful performer and one of the best....he is missed. ❤

Dearly beloved

We are gathered here today

To get through this thing called life

Electric word life

It means forever and that's a mighty long time

But I'm here to tell you

There's something else

The afterworld

A world of never-ending happiness

You can always see the sun, day or night

So when you call up that shrink in Beverly Hills

You know the one Dr. Everything'll Be Alright

Instead of asking him how much of your time is left

Ask him how much of your mind, baby

'Cause in this life

Things are much harder than in the afterworld

In this life

You're on your own

And if the elevator tries to bring you down

Go crazy - punch a higher floor

Art gallery? Who needs it? Look up at the swirling silver-lined clouds in the magnificent blue sky or at the silently blazing stars at midnight. How could indoor art be any more masterfully created than God's museum of nature? ~Grey Livingston

Here's a piece of Ricardo Breceda's metal art in Borrego Springs, the small town surrounded by Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. It was definitely a brilliant sky on this early June night, and fun to find an appropriate piece of Breceda's work situated with the Milky Way over it. This would be a piece inspired by the extinct Harlan's Ground Sloth. If you need to know more about that, from Wikipedia: "Paramylodon is an extinct genus of ground sloth of the family Mylodontidae endemic to North America during the Pliocene through Pleistocene epochs, living from around ~4.9 Mya–11,000 years ago. It is also known as Harlan's ground sloth." Its fossils have been found, allegedly, close to Borrego Springs.

I tried shooting some of these sculptures a few years ago at night, using a small flashlight to try and light-paint them. I can tell you, being dark, they just suck light. This year, I used two small adjustable LED light panels. Made all the difference! And if you view large, you get some feel for how masterful Breceda is, how much detail he can produce in his creatures.

Lots of airplanes flew through here, and I actually spotted their light-trails out. The one that's left there near the center (over the sloth's forehead) could actually be a meteor, by the tailing-off shape. Always exciting to find those in the night's shoot.

Peregrine Falcons catch medium-sized birds in the air with swift, spectacular dives, called stoops. In cities they are masterful at catching pigeons. Elsewhere they feed especially on shorebirds and ducks. They often sit on high perches, waiting for the right opportunity to make their aerial assault.

These great hunters of the sky can be seen all over North

America but most prevalent along the coastal areas. They are considered the fastest animal on earth reaching speeds over 200mph in dive, aka a "stoop." Fastest time clocked is 248mph!!!!

Peregrine Falcon chicks, called eyases, eat an incredible amount of food - in six days, they double their weight, and at three weeks are ten times their size at birth!

The females are about 20% bigger in size than their males counterparts.

Baddesley Clinton is a moated manor house, about 8 miles north-west of the town of Warwick, in the village of Baddesley Clinton, Warwickshire, England. The house probably originated in the 13th century, when large areas of the Forest of Arden were cleared for farmland.

In 1438 John Brome, Under-Treasurer of England, purchased the manor, which passed to his son, Nicholas Brome (d.1517), who rebuilt the nearby parish church dedicated to St Michael, as a penance for having murdered the parish priest, a crime reputed to have been committed inside the house. The house from this period was equipped with gun-ports, and possibly a drawbridge over the moat.

When Nicholas Brome died in 1517, the house passed to his daughter, who in 1500 had married Sir Edward Ferrers, Sheriff of Warwickshire.

The Ferrers appear to have remained Roman Catholic recusants after the Reformation, along with many other members of the Warwickshire gentry. They sheltered Catholic priests, who were under threat of a death sentence if discovered, and made special arrangements to hide and protect them. Several priest holes were built, secret passages to hide people in the event of a search by the authorities. One such priest hole is off the Moat Room, and is simply a small room with a door hidden in the wood panelling. A second, leading into the ceiling, is reputed to hold six people. A third is hidden in an old privy. Fugitives were able to slide down a rope from the first floor through the old garderobe shaft into the house's sewers, which run the length of the building, which could probably hold a dozen people. These priest holes are said to have been built by Saint Nicholas Owen, a lay-brother of the Jesuits who constructed many masterful hides, notably at nearby Harvington Hall. He was eventually caught and tortured to death by the Protestant English government.

The priest holes came into use at least once, in 1591 when a conference of Jesuit priests was raided by local authorities. They proved effective as no-one was caught.

A masterful photo on Kodachrome by Mr. Bjorklund captures a meet in progress in Waterville, Minnesota. At left, CNW 208 North, with an F3A meets CNW 4501 North, with a GP9 on the Redwing Local.

With a current population of less than 2000 people, Waterville is an apt name for this tiny town. On the west side is Tetonka Lake, on the east, Sakatah Lake. It appears there are no railroads that call on Waterville now, much less a junction point between two lines.

SKIN LIKE SYNTAX by Catherine Nikolaidis, the September 2025 exhibition @ Nitroglobus Main hall

I have always admired Catherine’s striking images, her exquisite avatar, and her refined artistic taste. That’s why I’m sincerely proud and delighted to present her latest exhibition, ‘Skin like Syntax’, in the main hall of Nitroglobus.

Working in monochrome—her signature palette—Catherine masterfully captures the elegance and sensuality of the female form in Second Life. This exhibition is a celebration of subtlety, sophistication, and visual poetry. I’m confident you’ll be moved by her stunning black-and-white work, which is both classy and evocative.

PLEASE NOTE: Some images contain tasteful nudity (e.g., partial or full exposure of breasts). Viewer discretion is advised.

Description of he exhibition by the artist:

“Skin like Syntax” explores woman and her body as a living language. In monochrome tones, I capture shifting moods and the balance between softness and strength, intimacy and distance.

Through my lens, real life turns into visual poetry, where light, shadow, and emotion blend together.

The Choir is a fundamental place in the spatial and functional conception of a Cathedral and its origin responds to a tradition linked to the Paleo-Christian basilicas, specifically in the “schola cantorum”. It is usual for the Choir to face the High Altar so that the liturgy can be followed. To this we must add that the cathedral clergy has altar and choir services as fundamental obligations, therefore, the Choir is an essential part, to the point that if there is no Choir there is no Cathedral.

The Choir is accessed through a Renaissance grille from the first half of the 16th century, completed by Francisco de Salamanca. The seats, made of different types of wood and where several authors took part, are from the beginning of the 16th century and have a magnificent sculptural and iconographic program. It should be noted that the 117 seat backs have completely different decorations, made with inlays based on Mudejar lacework. This type of Mudejar adornment in the Choir is only found in the Cathedral of Puebla in Mexico, where the influence of the Cathedral of Seville in New Spain is again evident.

In the center, a large Renaissance lectern, carved in wood, which was used to place the huge liturgical chant books. Dating from the second half of the 16th century, it was made, among others, by Juan Bautista Vázquez “the Old”, who also masterfully carved the Virgin with Child, who presides over the lectern.

Known for his sonorous baritone voice and masterful guitar work, Hans Theessink brings a rich blend of Blues, Folk, Roots, and Gospel to the stage, captivating audiences with his heartfelt and emotionally charged performances. Whether playing solo or alongside other musicians, Theessink delivers music that resonates on a deep level, with his unique slide and fingerpicking style taking listeners on a journey through the roots of American blues.

The silhouette of a graceful coconut tree, elegantly bending towards the shore, stands as a darkened sentinel against the radiant hues of the setting sun. The scene resembles a masterfully drawn landscape, evoking a sense of artistic wonder in nature's canvas.

I followed her very long time during she way chasing cayman. Her approach to the prey is extremely mysterious and masterful. It is so exciting to watch them. But I suddenly noticed the sun shine on her eyes and loved the moment so much.

Unfortunately the attack was not successful.

Young Cormorant drying feathers in the sun

"Although they are adept swimmers and masterful fishers, cormorants do not have fully waterproof feathers. As a result, they can often be seen standing on the shore, their wings spread to dry by catching the breeze and sun."

"While pros at swimming, the cormorants’ waterlogged feathers often make it look as if they are struggling in water. They often have just their faces and necks above the water’s surface and, after a dip, perch in trees or sit on rocks with their wings open to dry their feathers in the sun."

Memories of a masterful sunset on the Eiffel Tower.

.

Souvenir d’un magistral coucher de soleil sur madame la Tour Eiffel.

The first time I saw a real HDR frame I was truly taken aback (I remember it was a huge yellow excavator under an amazing late afternoon sky) ... That moment really pushed me into taking up photography as a really serious hobby ... I really couldn't imagine how on earth can a photographer actually represent the true lighting and color conditions of an all around low light scene with such unsurpassed accuracy and precision ... It then became one of my noble pursuits to try to master the technique in the best possible way (all these about eight years ago) ...

Since then I experimented a lot ... Both on photo shooting sites as well as at home ... I still do ... When I find an excellent landscape ahead of me I try to create a masterful synthesis and then I try to enclose this synthesis into my camera's sensor using a variety of camera adjustments ... Even minor adjustments can make a difference from an elegant frame to an excellent one ... Exchanging focusing points on the overall vista, as well as altering Exposure Compensation and aperture values are some of these adjustments ...

Of course three more things one should always bear in mind: The first is to always shoot RAW, the second is to use a steady tripod and last but not least buy an excellent HDR Software from the tens that exist out there that suits one's processing skills and final aesthetic outcome on a frame and master it ...

NIKON D90 DSLR with Nikon Nikkor 18 - 55 lens, Manual Mode, shutter speed 1/80 s, ISO 200, f 10, focal length 18 mm, use of HOYA ND X 2 filter, cloudy weather white balance, center weighted average metering mode, exposure compensation set to -1 EV, HDR processing derived from only one RAW file, no flash, use of tripod ...

Feliz Quarta Sunset!

Happy Sunset Wednesday!

(Original colours)

According to Arboretum President and CEO Gerard T. Donnelly, Ph.D., the garden was designed to showcase the beauty and diversity of plants as a masterful horticultural display reimagining the footprint of the Arboretum’s former Hedge Garden dating back to 1934.

“The Grand Garden will have great appeal to the public with vibrant plantings, delightful water features and spaces designed for celebration and joy. The garden adds a significant new dimension to the Arboretum guest experience. It is brimming with beautiful blooms, bright vistas and the alluring sounds of falling water.” said Donnelly.

There are three main spaces in the Grand Garden —Centennial Plaza, the Celebration Garden and the Joy of Plants Garden, each providing guests with a different experience including plant-filled rooms, shimmering fountains, and a spacious terrace for weddings and other special events.

As an unexpected treat to her passengers, MS Nordlys entered a steep, narrow fjord call Trollfjord. About a kilometre after the very narrow inlet, the fjord widened enough to allow the ship to turn. The shiphandling was masterful.

This was shot looking back during the turn manoeuvre (which somewhat American passengers referred to as "doing a 360" 😉 ). The time was around midnight.

🌸 I can still hear the music echoing in my heart… the way his hand swept me across the polished floor, holding me as if I were the only one in the world. In that enchanted moment, beneath the velvet sky, I wore the Jovanna Gown in Mauve by Sascha’s Designs—and the night itself seemed to bend around its elegance.

🍇 Draped in this gown’s sweeping cascade, I was a vision of timeless grace. Its cut is masterfully sculpted, the one-shoulder silhouette recalling the refined drapery of classical Grecian goddesses, yet kissed with the daring sophistication of mid-century couture. The fabric flows like a river of violet silk, every fold a deliberate gesture, accentuating both strength and softness. The gown’s train unfurls in waves, trailing behind as if carrying whispers of the dance long after the music has ceased.

💜 The mauve hue itself holds a secret—rich, mysterious, and deeply romantic. It is the shade of twilight dreams, a color that flatters the skin with a noble glow, calling to mind the gowns of salon soirées and royal courts, where elegance was a language of seduction.

After the evening, he swept me away to a secluded mountain retreat—firelight warming the room, the stars glimmering outside our window. Yet it was this gown that captured him most of all, its sculpted bodice, its entrancing fall, and the memory of how it moved in rhythm with me.

This gown is not simply worn; it becomes part of your story—whether that story is written in the hush of a ballroom, the stillness of the mountains, or in the embrace of a lover who cannot look away.

Tucked away at the foot of Mill Street, beneath the towering ramparts of the castle (hidden here on the left) is this lovely cottage and garden.

It is owned by Julia Measures, whose family has owned the garden since 1938 and whose father Arthur worked on it for 60 years.

I think you can see that every inch of this garden is cared for and thought about and it is an absolute treat to visit.

The garden is relatively small, but masterful planting has given it lots of unexpected corners and the views out to the castle, river and the picturesque ruins of the old bridge carefully framed by planting and judicious pruning make it feel much larger.

I was lucky enough to have it to myself when I first arrived.

As I'm so 'down with the kid's' I wasn't carrying any cash for the Honesty Box and only had my card, so the very nice lady came out of the cottage and told me to have a wander whilst she charged up her card reader that had gone flat from lack of use! We got there in the end.

Mill Garden is not to be missed if you are in Warwick. It is open 7 days a week from Easter till October for the small charge of £3 which goes to charity.

...Makes you proud to be British!

Been working on my pizza skills for the last week. Steep learning curve and it can be a humbling experience at times! I have high respect for the "old school" pizza masters. This was cooked with a combination of coal and wood. Some of my best childhood memories were going to a pizza joint and the owner speaking only Italian and tossing his pies in front of a window so people walking by could see his masterful skills. Oh, how I miss those days!

I’ve gazed upon the sunset

In all its glorious hues;

And understood its awesome power;

Its propensity to soothe.

The true measure of a person’s soul;

The legacy left behind;

Is akin to the masterful sunset,

And etched in spiritual shrine.

To be like that wondrous force;

To shine boldly with color and grace

In the last moments of one’s glory

Until nobly conceding the day.

I visited the Tuna Cat Café, and it’s an absolute gem. Tucked on a cliffside on the mainland, this little spot has it all: cats roaming around, arcade games, and cosy sci-fi-art-themed nooks.

It’s a masterful use of space, blending a chill vibe with beautiful ocean views. Plus, the beachside gaming and bubble tea stand are an added bonus.
