A massive wall of fog is surging against the cliffs of mt. Winterberg in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. In the beginning it is only slipping between the trees but then it's overflowing the entire woodlands. Soon nothing can be seen of the wide green areas in the valley.

The sun that has just risen, is bravely fighting back, trying to push back the masses.. At the moment she has no chance, but the battle is not yet decided.

Mount Tom is a large and prominent peak near the city of Bishop in Inyo County of eastern California. The Owens Valley, at the base of Mt. Tom, is a little over 4,000 feet, and the summit of Mt. Tom is 13,658, for almost 10,000 feet of relief. (Wikipedia)

These are late Cretaceous greywacke sandstones of the Cambria slab. They are interpreted as submarine landslides into a large marine canyon, something like the present-day Monterey Canyon. Ordinarily they look like massive, grey, featureless sandstone. But in flat light & when they are wet, sometimes you get enigmatic hints like this. . .

Field of view is about 2 ft (60 cm) across, by memory.

The icebergs entering Disko Bay from the Ilulissat Icefjord south of Ilulissat, Greenland. are truly massive.

Thanks to Everyone who took the trouble to view, comment or fave.

Last 5 minutes of warm evening light on the Seven Sisters & coastguard cottages.

You can see where a massive 10 meter chunk of the 250ft high chalk cliff of the fourth of the seven sisters has slipped out into the English Channel earlier in the week - worst land slip here in 50 years apparently according to some.

You can also make out a few people down on the beach to give a sense of scale.

Best not to get too close to the edge up above, or to the cliff face down below unless you've always had a real yearning to be fossilised in the chalk just like an ammonite :)

I discovered this beautiful pine in the mist on my daily morning trip yesterday morning. Unfortunately without my camera gear, so it is shot with a mobile camera,

A massive tent caterpillar nest out of reach is now empty but of a few caterpillars that did not survive and a bundle of eggs packed against a small branch.
