Last year the Lord began speaking to me about self-care going into 2018. I remembered thinking, "I'm fine. Truly." But I know better than to argue. So I've blocked off Fridays to take care of me - my body, soul and spirit. It's a day to rest, to create and fill up after a week of pouring out.
Last week I had my first massage in well over a year. While my massage therapist expertly worked over my body, it was then that I tearfully realized just how neglectful I've been. I have muscle knots all over my body. It was humbling.
Last year was tough. It was one of the hardest years I can remember to be honest. So many things fell apart. Other things fell together. And my body has had the brunt of processing through it all.
I had my second massage today. It was a little easier than last week but there's still much work to be done.
The thought crossed my mind I should ask my body to forgive me. Forgive my negligence, for taking it for granted - for the outright abuse. I haven't been kind to myself, and this year I hope to turn that around.
Self-care is not selfish. Truly it is the kindest thing you can do for yourself. If you're not taking care of YOU, then who will?
