Sun went to meet the Demons, and in conversation learnt from them that they were on their way to catch the famous Monkey, and that the magic gourd and vase were for that purpose. They showed these treasures to him, and explained that the gourd, though small, could hold a thousand people. “That is nothing,” replied Sun. “I have a gourd which can contain all the heavens.” At this they marvelled greatly, and made a bargain with him, according to which he was to give them his gourd, after it had been tested as to its capacity to contain the heavens, in exchange for their precious gourd and vase. Going up to Heaven, the Monkey obtained permission to extinguish the light of the sun, moon, and stars for one hour. At noon the next day there was complete darkness, and the Demons believed Sun when he stated that he had put the whole heavens into his gourd so that there could be no light. The Magic Rope:On discovering that they had been deceived, the Demons made complaint to their chiefs, who informed them that Sun, by pretending to be one of the Immortals, had outwitted them. They had now lost two out of their five magic treasures. There remained three, the magic sword, the magic palm fan, and the magic rope. “Go,” said they, “and invite our dear grandmother to come and dine on human flesh.” Personating one of the Demons, Sun himself went on this errand. He told the old lady that he wanted her to bring with her the magic rope, with which to catch Sun. She was delighted, and set out in her chair carried by two fairies. When they had gone some few li, Sun killed the ladies, and then saw that they were foxes. He took the magic rope, and thus had three of the magic treasures. Having changed the dead so that they looked like living creatures, he returned to the Lotus Cave. Many small demons came running up, saying that the old lady had been slain. The Demon-king, alarmed, proposed to release the whole party. But his younger brother said: “No, let me fight Sun. If I win, we can eat them; if I fail, we can let them go.”After thirty bouts Sun lost the magic rope, and the Demon lassoed him with it and carried him to the cave, and took back the magic gourd and vase. Sun now transformed himself into two false demons. One he placed instead of himself in the lasso bound to a pillar, and then went and reported to the second Demon-chief that Sun was struggling hard, and that he should be bound with a stronger rope lest he make his escape. Thus, by this strategy, Sun obtained possession of the magic rope again. By a similar trick he also got back the magic gourd and vase.

The prediction for 2016 Year of Monkey is based on your birth year.2016 ICMProblem DMeasuring the Evolution and Influence in Society’s Information Networks
Information is spread quickly in today’s tech-connected communications network; sometimes it is due tothe inherent value of the information itself, and other times it is due to the information finding its way toinfluential or central network nodes that accelerate its spread through social media. While content hasvaried -- in the 1800s, news was more about local events (e.g., weddings, storms, deaths) rather than viralvideos of cats or social lives of entertainers -- the prevailing premise is that this cultural characteristic toshare information (both serious and trivial) has always been there. However, the flow of information hasnever been as easy or wide-ranging as it is today, allowing news of various levels of importance to spreadquickly across the globe in our tech connected world. By taking a historical perspective of flow ofinformation relative to inherent value of information, the Institute of Communication Media (ICM) seeksto understand the evolution of the methodology, purpose, and functionality of society’s networks.Specifically, your team, as part of ICM’s Information Analytics Division, has been assigned to analyzethe relationship between speed/flow of information vs inherent value of information based onconsideration of 5 periods: in the 1870s, when newspapers were delivered by trains and stories werepassed by telegraph; in the 1920s, when radios became a more common household item; in the 1970s,when televisions were in most homes; in the 1990s, when households began connecting to the earlyinternet; in the 2010s, when we can carry a connection to the world on our phones. Your supervisorreminds you to be sure to report the assumptions you make and the data you use to build your models.Your specific tasks are:(a) Develop one or more model(s) that allow(s) you to explore the flow of information and filteror find what qualifies as news.(b) Validate your model’s reliability by using data from the past and the prediction capability ofyour model to predict the information communication situation for today and compare that withtoday’s reality.(c) Use your model to predict the communication networks’ relationships and capacities aroundthe year 2050.(d) Use the theories and concepts of information influence on networks to model how publicinterest and opinion can be changed through information networks in today’s connected world.(e) Determine how information value, people’s initial opinion and bias, form of the message orits source, and the topology or strength of the information network in a region, country, orworldwide could be used to spread information and influence public opinion.Possible Data Sources:As you develop your model and prepare to test it, you will need to assemble a collection of data. Beloware just some examples of the types of data you may find useful in this project. Depending on your exactmodel, some types of data may be very important and others may be entirely irrelevant. In addition to thesample sources provided below, you might want to consider a few important world events throughouthistory – if some recent big news events, such as the rumors of country-turned-pop singer Taylor Swift’spossible engagement had instead happened in 1860, what percentage of the population would know aboutit and how quickly; likewise, if an important person was assassinated today, how would that news spread? How might that compare to the news of US President Abraham Lincoln’s assassination? I was walking home this evening, and was excited to see what looked like a couple of enterprising late night ice cream trucks located in the gardens of the Prince Regent Royal Pavilion - lots of nice bright coloured lights inside.
They turned out to be outside broadcast TV satellite uplinks / downlinks, presumably there to assist coverage of the first Gay / Same-Sex Wedding in England, held in the splendid location of the music room of the Royal Pavilion. The law [relating to marriage] was due to come into effect at midnight.
Apart from the small dish on the roof of each vehicle, quite small and mundane. This type of facility used to be installed in a huge vehicle; now the operators cannot even stand up inside.
Because Brighton is not in London, locally available internet services are suitable only for twitter and braille.
The razor sharp legal minds at ITN and other news agencies have spotted that this poor performance does not violate the contractual offers of "up to 1 billion bits per second". Certainly 3G services here cannot deliver internet radio in "real time". They should be able to, but they cannot. Visiting news organisations seeking to tether their 4K ENG [Electronic News Gathering] equipment to their iPhones or Android devices are in for a disappointment. Hence the need for these mobile satellite base stations.
Global communications of course were invented by genius english singer-songwriter John Otway, "rock and rolls greatest failure " (Sir Tim Berners-Lee famously went to one of his gigs and stole the internet bit of the idea, with the rest of the intellectual property nabbed by DARPA).
Listen to his thesis "Mass Communication" on YouTube here: Mass Communication
Or read his 1983 White Paper (disguised as the lyrics of the song Mass Communication).
[Uh-oh] Mass Communication - John Otway - Lyrics
One, two
One, two, three
Got a dish in my garden for my satellite TV
That's because I've got the technology
Don't know where it's leading, or how much I can take
So many more subjects for my video tapes
The news in italian
The weather in french
The ice hockey finals from the russian sputniks
So international with my saucer in the yard
So cosmopolitan with my eyes on the world
[chorus] Across the sky at the speed of light
[digital beeping in background]
[chorus] To a million TV sets each ni-i-ight
O - oh, mass communication, mass communica-ation
[+ chorus] O-o-oh, mass communication, mass communication
I got 13 channels in my fibre optic wire
A plug by my phone and a plug for my computer
And the phone and the computer can talk to each other
And the whole damn thing comes up on the monitor
I can stand in front of my video camera
So some guy can watch me smile in America
I'm actually [actively ?] famous all over the world
With live broadcasts from my saucer in the yard
[chorus] Across the sky at the speed of light
[chorus] To a million TV sets each ni-i-ight
O - oh, mass communication, mass communica-ation
[chorus] O-o-oh, mass communication, mass communication
[Amazing early 1980's synthesizer instrumental intermission]
Let's all get saucers, let's all get computers
Let's challenge the americans to space invaders
So competitive with our saucers in the yard
With our satellites playing missile command
Across the sky at the speed of light
To a million TV sets each night
[chorus] Across the sky at the speed of light
[chorus] To a million TV sets each ni-i-ight
O - oh, mass communication, mass communica-ation
Oh oh oh, mass communication, mass communica-ation
[chorus] Across the sky at the speed of light
[chorus] To a million TV sets each night
[chorus] Across the sky at the speed of light
[chorus] To a million TV sets each night
[chorus] Across the sky at the speed of light
[chorus] To a million TV sets each night
[chorus] Across the sky at the speed of light
[faint backing chorus] O-o-oh, mass communication
[chorus] To a million TV sets each night
[faint backing chorus] Mass communication, mass communication
[chorus] Across the sky at the speed of light
[faint backing chorus] O-o-oh, mass communication
[chorus] To a million TV sets each night
[faint backing chorus] Mass communication, mass communication
[chorus] Across the sky at the speed of light

John Otway also famously avoided serious injury (but not serious discomfort) while falling off a PA Tower speaker stack on the the BBC2 TV programme "The Old Grey Whistle Test" by cushioning his fall using his "gentleman's hairy love eggs".
