I took a relaxing day trip to the Adirondacks on Saturday. I got some nice drone images while there.
I hope everyone enjoys this image! :D
One of the adorable little leaf-cutter bees that I gave a home to last summer. I live in Maryland but these were ordered from a breeder.

A stunning little beast. Quite fascinating creatures. As ever, Stephen Falk has documented them rather well - www.flickr.com/photos/63075200@N07/collections/7215763704...

Wishing all my Flickr friends a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
We traveled around Mason Lake to a peaceful campsite where we had lunch. A few dozen people were around the bend on the other side of the lake noisily enjoying themselves. Thankfully, we didn't hear them very much in this spot.
We scrambled around the lake to a small campsite to eat lunch far from the noisy crowd. There was a cold wind blowing but no rain. Would have been good to have a rain (we had raincoats along) because everything was very, very dry.
A mason bee (possibly the blue orchard bee Osmia lignaria, though this guy is distinctly more green than blue) visiting flowers in my yard. One of the most striking pollinators in my garden! ID help for the flowers would be appreciated.
From Wikipedia about the name Mason.
The popularity of this name has increased in recent years, becoming the second most popular name given to boys in the United States in 2011
By a strange coincidence, I named my cat in 2011 by this name

I thought the raised lettering on the outside of the jar interacted nicely with the air bubbles on the inside (the jar is being repurposed as a vase for a few wildflowers, and so is full of water).

I thought it was some kind of a fancy fly, but turns out it's a Mason Bee.
It was hanging out with a bunch of regular looking bees on the flowers on the back patio!
Shortly after taking this photo, I went to Dart's Hill Garden. A Mason Bee group had a display set up with a photo of a Mason Bee that looked identical to this creature. I'm guessing there are different types of Mason Bees?
From Wikipedia: "Mason bee is a name now commonly used for species of bees in the genus Osmia, of the family ... Osmia species are frequently metallic green or blue"

I am hopeless. I have done nothing all day... so much for all of the projects I had in my mind (where they generally stay...forever). I went back to the abandoned stone house and took more pictures.... and I found these mason jars... and they followed me home....
Someone really needs to save me from myself...
Mason jars are a wonderful thing. You can fill them with treasures... like seashells, or buttons, or clothespins (yes, they are treasures, too) and then add them to the thousand other mason jars filled with treasures.... *sigh*
A Mason & Hamiln organ from the workhouse.
I like the "Please don't touch me, I'm having a rest" sign
The company Mason & Hamlin is an American brand, founded in Massachusetts in 1854 by the son of Lowell Mason. More information here:- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mason_%26_Hamlin
I am intrigued as to how an American organ arrived in a workhouse in Nottinghamshire.
Mason Greenwood is 18 and there was an article about him in today's Times.
That shouldn't come as a surprise as there was an article about him in yesterday's Times, too. And the day before, and the day before that ... and ...
You get the picture. Mason may just be a special footballer.

Mason bees I think. On our driveway. Picked them up in case they got stood on. Quick mobile snap and let them carry on, in the safety of the garden.
The Mason-Dixon Trail is a 195 mile path that connects the Appalachian Trail in with the Brandywine Trail near the Delaware border. This section of the trail is located right along the western side of the Susquehanna. A beautiful walk even in the mist. Have a great weekend.
Mason was one of a litter of four kittens, gifted to us in 2005 by a little pregnant stray we named Coconut. Sixteen years of wonderful memories would follow. Thank you, Coconut.

Iowa Traction 54 pulls a single car from the AGP bean mill at West Mason City, IA as motor 51 holds the main with scrap loads from Emery. With a limited physical plant, IATR would normally use two motors at West Mason City to get all of the switching, industry, and interchange work done quickly and efficiently. Watching the two man crew perform their moves hopping from one motor to the other, swapping roles between motorman and switchman, and raising and lowering trolley poles, was like watching a well choreographed dance. An iron ballet, if you will. I haven't been back to the Traction in well over a decade, but hopefully the show still goes on.
