Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, Gregory Andrews has stormed the streets of Accra to distribute nose masks and educate the beneficiaries on how to wear them.

The outgoing diplomat disclosed that, hundreds of nose masks were given out on the streets of Chorkor in the Greater Accra Region.

This was done in partnership with BASICS International, a global community-based intervention program, promoting literacy, economic empowerment, health, wellness and social inclusion.

“I had the masks made here in Ghana with wallaby fabric from Australia. If you see me on the streets, don’t be shy. Please ask me for one. We all need to #MaskUp not down against COVID-19!” he stated in an earlier post on Facebook.

Expressing excitement after a successful exercise, the envoy said his country and its people would be happy to know taxes they pay, are being used to save lives in West Africa, particularly Ghana.

He writes, “I will sleep very well tonight after handing out hundreds of face masks and teaching people to use them safely with the help of my team and friends from BASICS International today in Chokor. I know Australians will be happy too. They will be pleased that the taxes they have paid and entrusted to the Australian Government are making a difference and saving lives here in West Africa.”

He advised the general public to mask up to help contain the spread of COVID-19. “#MaskUp not down Ghana! We can beat COVID-19 together,” he urged.
