Leaf shutter, flash, inbuilt ND filter - a glorious combination. Warning: do not let technology distract you from the subject matter!
Once again craning from a perch aboard the ferry home, this time has me viewing from the port side. The sun is brilliant, overhead and I am witness to a powerful opportunity. There is very little color so a B&W photo becomes the goal. At its peak, the cloud is incredibly white, while the island in its depths, is in shadow and almost black. The contrast is wonderful and makes for a very dynamic result.
The shape too adds to the overall energy of the image. A triangle is a very strong shape in photography, and this moment cooperates in form. I am not concerned with depth, but instead both shape and contrast. And, as good fortune would have it, the grey sky delivers the ideal palette.
My Partner and I have been together for 19 Years and decided to make it legal and official today....I am now known as Mrs Janet Cartwright ..
I caught these two eagles screaming at each other. I have no idea what their problem was.
I have observed some basic principles about healthy marriages throughout the last six decades. Nearly every married couple is eager to get advice about their marriage, especially when their marriage is fresh and young. As the years go by, the eagerness wanes for most.
However, here's one thing I have learned: married couples need to know how to get their point across to their mate. Sometimes couples will pray about problems, some will do research and present their viewpoint logically while others just wing it and hope for the best.
But I have noticed that the most effective couples have one of the partners who knows how to couple emotional attachment to their argument and simply go head to head and let it rip.
Marriages are long cumbersome tiring and very expensive affair in Pakistan... but boy are they fun !
“A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person”
Marriage statistics are disheartening to look at.
Half of marriages end in divorce. It's a fact, but it isn't the full reality. The statistics don't even take "seperations" into account. A lot of people are legally married and yet no longer together. It just costs too much money for the lawyer fees and they don't want to deal with the hassle. I know 3 couples that are in that situation.
So MORE than half of marriages fail.
Yet people are getting married every day even though the odds are clearly against them succeeding.
Why is that?
I guess it's for the same reason Eric and I got married. We want to believe that we're going to be the small percentage bracket that makes it to the end. The old couple on the park bench holding hands and gazing into eachother's sagging watery eyes still with the love and passion that we feel today.
I really believe we will. You can chalk it up to youthful idealism, but thats how I feel in my heart. I look forward to growing old with Eric.
I found these Tiny dolls in a small box of knick knacks I unpacked today. I'm not sure where they came from! I used them to test out the macro function on my Nikon.
It's hard to ignore how they both look a little afraid and uneasy.
I love this- on a beach at a Resort in the Dominican Republic they have a set up for couples to get married. They stand there facing the ocean with the Banana boat shipwreck in the distance. How many grooms have wanted to RUN instead of saying their vows while staring at a shipwreck. PLEASE VIEW LARGE TO SEE SHIPWRECK! I feel the title says volumes! Happy Holidays Everyone, and for those of you who are not overly PC Merry Christmas!

A marriage of state is a diplomatic marriage or union between two members of different nation-states or internally, between two power blocs, usually in authoritarian societies and is a practice which dates back to ancient times, as far back as early Grecian cultures in western society, and of similar antiquity in other civilizations. A Marriage of State often involved surrendering a female member of a ruling line to gain peace or shore up alliances of state between nation-states headed by small oligarchies or acknowledged royalty. -- Courtesy Wikipedia
marriage is uniting two different characters ...

On MARRIAGE
Then Almitra spoke again and said, And
what of Marriage, master?
And he answered saying:
You were born together, and together you
shall be forevermore.
You shall be together when the white
wings of death scatter your days.
Ay, you shall be together even in the
silent memory of God.
But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance
between you.
Love one another, but make not a bond
of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between
the shores of your souls.
Fill each other’s cup but drink not from
one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat
not from the same loaf.
Sing and dance together and be joyous,
but let each one of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone
though they quiver with the same music.
Give your hearts, but not into each
other’s keeping.
For only the hand of Life can contain
your hearts.
And stand together yet not too near
together:
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow
not in each other’s shadow.

Love is ...
Feelings that must be present for each human being,
it is like a drop of dew coming down from the sky, clean and holy.
Only the land is the one who accepts it ...
If he falls into a barren land, grow because dew is lawlessness, lying, deceitful, stepped up and so on.
But if he falls to fertile land, there will grow purity of heart, sincerity, faithful high manners and other praiseworthy behaviors .

Love never asked, he always gave, love brought suffering, but never vengeful, never took revenge. Where there is love there is life; when hatred leads to destruction.

"Marriage is not a noun; it's a verb. It isn't something you get. It's something you do. It's the way you love your partner every day." -Barbara De Angelis
When the groom goes to pick up the bride from her house,
the daughter crying, because he leaves forever his father's house,
and until she goes to the groom's house, she is very sad.
But there she dances with her beloved,
and finally smiles at her new life!

Not sure what kind of person would make a marriage proposal in graffiti on an abandoned grain elevator. Perhaps it is the kind of person who would add "Let us be Wild and Free".

After yesterday's misanthropic view on love -- my rather cruel and unusual picture "Divorce" -- I today return to my roots: The cliché.
(Update: When done reading this, have a look at my "Marriage Revisited" photo as well)
This photo is yet another attempt to follow the #TwPhCh group (Twitter Photo Challenge) here on Flickr. This week's challenge is "rundt" which is norwegian for both round/circular and around.
Here I've used all the cliché's possible: Love, circle of life, the bible, etc. The Bible is even open at the end of chapter 13 of Paul's letter to the Corinthians. You know the quote: "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love" (1 Corinthians 13:13).
But even so: It's a beautiful quote, and I cannot help but feel that the combination of elements looks rather good. Even though we all have seen these kinds of pictures before.
Technical data:
Shot with a cheap 70-300 mm tele zoom with 1:2 macro capabilites. That lens is pleasantly soft.
A flash is place a couple of meters behind and a meter above the ring, pointing down towards the book. The distance is big enough to create harsh shadows. The flash was gelled with a CTO filter to emulate sunset light.
ISO 100, manual exposure, 1/60 and f/8.0. TTL on flash, no compensation. The external flash was triggered by a flash on camera. No flash output from the on-camera flash. I actually thought the sunset effect was too obvious after processing the picture, so I desaturated the picture just a little in Photoshop Elements before uploading it here.
BTW: The ring's the same as on yesterday's picture. But I think the ring likes to model for this picture better than the last :-)
Update: The day after posting this I reached #273 on Explore (May 25), reached #111 the day after that and #57 on day three. Best after that: #50. It's been fun following this development; I think I've learned something about the Interestingness algorithm along the way. Anyway, thanks to everyone who has commented this picture and favorited it.
Update 2: I got third place in this week's Twitter Photo Challenge with this picture. Thanks to everyone who voted for my picture.
Environment and Development: Marriage or Divorce
The relationship of mankind to the environment can be portrayed since the ancient years, where mankind tried to control the external surroundings. And have the full control of the materials needed for the benefit of progress, and the sake of prosperity as well as development in ones pattern of life. Over the ages and years, the human found himself caught in a dilemma of achievements that surrounded him by all sides.
Those achievements can be prosperous yet caused an individual a lot of pressure, one in which he did never faced in the old, ancient times. Technology, for example, can be considered as a modern mean of communication that one can use, and it can successfully bring him closer to other people from all over the world. However, technology does fill one’s lung with polluted air; making him more vulnerable to diseases and epidemics. In this scene, an individual benefiting from the development, can find himself in a new battle. A battle whose core is to control the consequences of this development, and reducing its effects by taking several important actions that include the preservation of the environment.
Caption of this picture
The image shows the link between technological progress and the environment, through aesthetic combination between the rose (daughter of the environment) with her bright and beautiful colors. And the bulb of light which represents the growth of technological developments (son of the technology). Summarizing all that in one sentence, 'Together they make a bright future'
How I took this shot
I used a black matt background. A studio light with an aperture of 25 exposed directly to the subject from the top. A studio light exposed with an aperture of 10 from the left side, and another one from the right side. Used CS2 to only edit the contrast other than that the image is 100% original.
This project isn't done yet, To be continued in my next post,

Today, marriage became legal for everyone in Connecticut.
Marriage is now equal in two states out of fifty, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.
Several states, including Vermont, California, New Jersey, Maine, Hawaii, DC, Washington and Oregon, have fallen short, creating Civil Unions, a policy of supposed Separate Equality, which is inherently unequal.
This country is absolutely treading on the rights of a minority group. Our laws are in place to protect minorities from the tyranny of majority rule.
If you want to take action, get in touch with the Equality group in your area.
There is a Nationwide protest against homophobic discrimination this Saturday, November 15th. Stand up and be heard.
Love is love.
In a country where church and state are separate, religion is free, and genders are equal, we are hypocrites operating under the principle that all Americans must abide by Fundamentalist morality in personal and legal matters, a moral system which inherently divides women from men.
So here's my question for you:
If I legally change my gender, can I marry whomever I want and get on with my life?
