If you hold this postcard up to the light the windows brighten up somewhat. Presumably this was a daytime shot made to look as though it is taken during the night.

The statue of Samuel Morley can be seen standing outside the Theatre Royal. The building on right hand corner of Market Street and Long Row was the old Nottingham Department store of Griffin & Spalding. The building was rebuilt in the 1920's. In c.1966 Debenhams purchased the store and I believe quickly rebranded it.

This postcard shows its vintage in that Post Office Regulations in the UK during the 1900's only permitted you to write a message on the reverse for inland postage. This postcard is franked Nottingham 5.45pm Aug 11 (19)03. It was sent to Mrs I Skelton, Fesserton, Tay, Ontario, Canada.

Instead of the usual Ha'penny stamp it cost a full 1d. to send this abroad. One penny in 1903 equates to 33p in 2008 using the Retail Prices Index. 1d in 1903 equates to £2.21 in 2008 if you use Per Captia GDP. (Per Capita GDP gives a better idea of how 'affordable' something was for someone taking into account earnings etc.)

The message on the front reads: -

' 4 Ossington Villas Sherwood Nottingham

Thanks for letter & ?. Aunt's address is

Will write to you soon

Much love to you all

from us both. Hubert

The picturesque Market House dominates the centre of Tetbury. It is the most photographed attraction in our Cotswold town. It was built by the Feoffees in 1655 for the sale of wool and yarn on which Tetbury's 17th and 18th century wealth originated.

The orange and gold foliage this time of year around Market Lake was enhanced by the warm morning light.

Smoke from the BBQ meat partially obscures the busy market scene on a rainy day at Coc Ly market, near Sa Pa, North Vietnam. Flower Hmong women with their colourful traditional attire and their babies on their backs are a common site at the market, as are the BBQ stands and the hordes of motorcycles.

The magic show always grabs the kids! Don’t see much magic at the market anymore.

Leadenhall Market boasts a magical history that stretches back to the 14th century, evolving from a bustling meat market into a vibrant destination for shopping and dining.

Nestled in the heart of the Square Mile (within the City of London), it’s now a go-to spot for stylish boutiques, tempting eateries and atmospheric bars.

Chipping Campden is a small market town in the Cotswold district of Gloucestershire, England. It is notable for its elegant terraced High Street, dating from the 14th century to the 17th century. ("Chipping" is from Old English cēping, "a market, a market-place"; the same element is found in other towns such as Chipping Norton, Chipping Sodbury.

A beautiful day and some nice colour after the misery of the last few months ! :)

I can understand the film like effect you get from this sensor with it not having so much punch as my Fuji X-T30 mark ll, but that in the way is what it is all about. You can just imagine in 2014, two years after introduction that owners were were saying I wish it had a bit more punch. My answer my Flickr friends is exploit this difference and enjoy this more film like and not so digital look. The camera itself is lovely to hold being like an X100 with interchangeable lenses but just a little bigger. There is something I really like about this camera, it’s a bit like having a favourite artists paint brush. Enough said you complete Nerd Mike.

Kingston Market Square, London.

Kingston, once the city where 10th century Saxon monarchs were crowned has had royal charter to hold markets since the 12th century. In the foreground is the memorial statue to Henry Shrubsole (mayor from 1877 to 1879). In the background sits Market House, the former town hall, built in 1706, and the gilded statue of Queen Anne (1665–1714).

Shot with a Nikon D7000 and a Nikkor AFS DX 18-200mm F/3.5-5.6G lens, and processed in GIMP and Photoscape.

Getting ready for the working day. I walk past the markets most days and I always look for a good picture that sums up the spirit of the traders.
