Arrow-marked Babbler is found in North-eastern South Africa, eastern Botswana, north-eastern Namibia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe and north to Kenya and Cabinda (north-western Angola). They are living in noisy groups of 4-10 birds and forages on the ground and in undergrowth for invertebrates, lizards, seeds, fruit and nectar.
Size: Length 23-25 cm, mass 56-86 g.

WELL-MARKED gamebird. The species is generally wary because it is heavily persecuted in many parts of the region. Grey Partridges are Native to the region, out of breeding season are often seen in small parties that prefer to run from danger rather than fly. Favors open grassland which is in short supply in Kent, a rare find for me!

The arrow-marked babbler (turdoides jardineii) is a species of bird in the family Leiothrichidae. It is native to woodlands in the southern Afrotropics.The arrow-marked babbler lives in social groups of between 3 and 15 birds (six being the average) that defend large territories, with the size of the territory being dependent upon the number of individuals in the group. They feed on insects, spiders and sometimes snails and lizards, as well as fruits. Foraging occurs near the ground, sometimes in association with other babblers or bulbuls.

Dendrobium is a genus of mostly epiphytic and lithophytic orchids in the family Orchidaceae. It is a very large genus, containing more than 1,800 species that are found in diverse habitats throughout much of south, east and southeast Asia, including China, Japan, India, the Philippines, Indonesia, Australia, New Guinea, Vietnam and many of the islands of the Pacific. Orchids in this genus have roots that creep over the surface of trees or rocks, rarely having their roots in soil. Up to six leaves develop in a tuft at the tip of a shoot and from one to a large number of flowers are arranged along an unbranched flowering stem. Between one and a large number of resupinate or non-resupinate flowers are arranged along an unbranched flowering stem and may be short or long-lived. The flowers may be white, green, yellow, or pink to purple, often with contrasting colours in the labellum. The sepals and petals are usually free from and more or less similar to each other but markedly different from the labellum. They have adapted to a wide variety of habitats, from the high altitudes in the Himalayan mountains to lowland tropical forests and even to the dry climate of the Australian desert. 1165

Erythromma lindenii, ♂♀ Goblet-marked Damselfly
With this heart "tilted", I put an end to this miniseries of the Erythromma lindenii, a fabulous day, where the clock stops, and you travel in the cloud of joy when capturing a new species, and later when you return home , already with the doubts of, what will be his name.

CHARMING well-marked little finch, seen only in our area a few times during the winter, when alder trees are leafless, and the seed heads are up for grabs. Seeing then up high in the trees twittering to each other, is a real joy, but a real photography challenge, as they move so fast. and their heads are always buried in the seed heads! . When the seeds are gone so are the Siskins. The males have a black head like above, and absent in females, seen in the Alder wood at Stodmarsh, Kent, U.K. Not the best image, but the best I could do, and not sure if I will see them again this year.

As we were taking off from Martin State Airport, we had a nice view of Wilson Point there that sticks out towards the Chesapeake Bay. I marked on the photo where my Dad's house is located. Also marked some other features in the photo like downtown Baltimore, etc.
Just about all the homes there on the end of Wilson Point ended up with water in them when Hurricane Isabel came up the East Coast. You can see how easily that thin peninsula does not provide a lot of protection from water being blown in from across the large bay.

I photographed this waterfall while hiking the shores of the Chutes du Moulin (Waterfalls of the Mill) in Parc Plaisance, in the historic "Le Petite Nation" (The Small Nation) region of Quebec, Canada. Le Petite Nation originated as part of the Seigneurial landholding system in New France, and the mill on this site marked the first industrial activity there. History buffs may wish to read on.
Seigneurial tenure was a legal and economic system of landholding which originated in France and which was introduced in New France as a basis of settlement. The seigneury was an estate, or fief, which the king granted to a lord (or seigneur in French), who was in charge of settling colonists (called censitaires ) on parcels of land. For his trouble, the seigneur was paid rent and dues, and enjoyed a number of honorific rights as well. This system was abandoned in the mid-19th Century.
