Takuya Yamashita :)

try llisten our set :)

The Canterbury Frozen Meat Coy (CFM) computer room in early 1975. The room shows an ICL 1901A 16K computer. The processor was integrated with the 300 line per minute printer (behind the teletype operator's console), In the far centre right are the two 8MB disc drives with the spare disc rack between and behind that the disc control cabinet. Discs 1 and 2 are on (two gaps at top of storage rack) so we were processing that day's sheep and lamb or beef kill. On the right is the paper tape reader, our only means of inputting data in those days, and on right edge of the image is part of the large air conditioning system. Temperature and humidity were controlled.

I started at CFM in late September 1973 as a trainee computer operator (there were about a dozen computers in Christchurch then and our computer room was in a large "display room" to showcase farmer suppliers and clients). I ended up running the computer department and saw it's demise when our new owners (PPCS) finally managed to take over all our applications (it took them over 15 years), and the last system ran was our stores inventory system in 2003.
In the days of the photo we processed the days sheep/lamb and beef kill and processed our meat and parts inventory. Still to come were payroll, and a full suite of accounts from the personal ledger to the general ledger and fixed assets register.
Over the years we progressed from a 1901A to a 1902T, 2903, 2904, ME29, two ME29s and finally a Series 39 VME machine.
