So last week I got a surprise postcard from back in the UK from a friend of mine Rob. Upon looking at the picture on the front I was like "Hmmm, that looks pretty cool" and then noticed all the arty names associated with it down the side. Now, who on earth, I thought, would be sending me arty photo postcards in the mail to my NZ address, everyone emails me that sort of stuff?

And I turned it over and noticed that a friend of both myself and Rob's, a chap called 'Red' affectionately had made the card as part of promoting his degree show. Red went to the same uni as me but did the art photography degree as opposed to the digital media one I did. He's a mature student in the sense that he's got a career already and was doing the course as a way to progress as a photographer more than anything. Red and Rob, along with many others formed the gang that I was part of during my photographic studies and make up a huge part of my happy memories whilst actually learning and enjoying what to do with a camera.

The card was a great surprise and hugely appreciated, made me smile, made me sad I'd missed the show (Red came to mine along with all the others) and also made me realise just how far we've all progressed over the years as photographers and as people.
