The Marienplatz square in Mindelheim. On the right the Mariensäule, the main feature on this square in the town of Mindelheim, Bavaria.
In the background the steeple of the St. Sylvester chapel (the chapel dates to 1409, but the steeple is younger). Nowadays the chapel houses a tower clock museum.

Subway station Marienplatz - sort of a "classic" Munich view...
Before somebody asks: "Where are the people?" - one just has to show a little patience to get a "deserted" view.

Lots of "ghosts" - but then it is a busy place and honestly I'm too lazy too clone them all out.

More of them...
In summer the Marienplatz is full of gaudily illuminated bicycle rickshaws. They do leave nice light trails, though... 😀

Munich Marienplatz station serves both the S-Bahn and U-Bahn - I love the orange design as it feels like part of a space station.

Another highlight from the Underground in Munich. I did most of the best on Sunday 21 May and took in 13. I got a licence in advance which allowed me to photograph with a Tripod which is not normally allowed. This was very easy just requiring an email and then sign and scan and send off the signed licence
To get started on stations as early and quiet as possible I started at 5.30am. This one was taken at 6.08am on the U-Bahn Line. This was taken at Marienplatz Station which is for the main square for the tourist area in the centre The shot was taken with a Sony A550 with a Tripod using a Sigma 10-20mm lens at 10mm.. 3 images for HDR at 0.7 difference. Processed with Photomatix 6 using realistic preset. This was followed by Topaz Clarity and increasing brightness a little, The colours are natural.

This is where I was led by my granddaughter Nora (left front with the tricycle).
In the background you can see the Catholic parish church of Mariä Himmelfahrt (Assumption of Mary). The predecessor of the present church dates back to the 13th and 14th centuries and was built in Gothic style. Of this, only the tower was left standing during the demolition in 1624. By 1628, a new building was erected in Mannerist style.

Marienplatz is an important stop on the Munich U-Bahn network, located under the square of the same name in Munich's city centre. The station is one of the most frequently used stations in the network, with up to 24.400 people transferring and 8000 passengers entering or exiting each hour.
Before I go away for a few weeks, thought I'll post my remaining photos of Munich taken in October 2017, starting with the old city square of Marienplatz. The column with the golden Madonna (whom the square is named after) & child statue and the Old Town Hall with its tower can be seen here.

Marienplatz is the heart of the city of Munich. In the Middle Ages, the square used to be a market place as well as the place where tournaments and festivities took place.
