walking along 4th ave Vancouver and this leaf was laying on the window ledge, I stood it up and VOILA !
Continuing the design and making it a bit more complex. A single leaf in my driveway (original photo is in the upper right corner above) becomes the inspiration for a colorful collage.
The first bishop of Québec, Saint François de Montmorency-Laval, canonized by pope Francis in 2014, has had this monument near the old Post Office since 1908. The sculptor was Louis-Philippe Hébert (1850-1917), who also did the statues in front of Parliament and the Maisonneuve monument on Montréal’s Place d’Armes.
The cupola was added to the 1873 Post Office building in 1913. In 1984 they renamed the building in honor of a former Prime Minister of Canada — who actually studied at the University named after the bishop... — but everyone still calls the building the Old Post Office. There actually still is a Post Office in part of the building, and I bought some stamps there...
I was surprised to learn that the Canadian flag is only fifty years old, though I do seem to remember learning in grade school about the earlier one, which included the Union Jack.
