Hi,

I was working on building a Matrix trilogy inspired adventure map, but my real life work is stalling the project, so instead of letting it sit, I wanted to share the texture pack and what I have started of the map.

The texture pack is 32 x 32 so you will have to use a modloader to run it.

I'm drawing over a copy of "Last Days" which was made by a few different artists, but the terrain.png is about 95% finished, and when its done, this pack will be *completely* different from Last Days, so please pardon the work-in-progress aspect of it, for now.

It was not really designed to be used as a "survival mode" texture pack, although I do include some textures near the bottom for eventually making a hydrid texture map that can be. If you do check it out, please take a look at what the finished map looks like.

The illegal trade in wildlife excluding timber and fisheries has been estimated by different sources to be worth 7–23 billion dollars annually, involving a wide range of species including insects, reptiles, amphibians, fish and mammals. It concerns both live and dead specimens or products thereof. Illegal harvest and trade further includes a range of species from iconic ones like gorillas, chimpanzees and orangutans, elephants, tigers, rhinos, Chiru antelopes and bears to corals, birds, pangolins, reptiles and sturgeon for black caviar. Approximately 94% of rhino poaching takes place in Zimbabwe and South Africa, which have by far the largest remaining populations, and has increased dramatically from possibly less than 50 in 2007 to over 1,000 rhinos poached in 2013, involving organized crime. Population size of black and white rhinos was ca. 4,800 and 20,000 in 2010 respectively, with Asian one-horned rhinos numbering ca. 3,600 individuals. Rhinos have disappeared entirely from several Asian and African countries in recent years, although overall numbers of rhino in Africa have been increasing.

I have always admired the artistry of older maps. The edges of these maps often contain engravings depicting local architecture or the real or imagined cosmos. One of the elements of traditional map making is the cartouche. Cartouches typically contain the name of the map along with other pertinent information like the date of the map and the name of the map maker. But some old maps turn the name into a short, visually elegant narrative of the place being mapped. If the maps were meant to be as accurate as possible, the cartouche is the one place where the map maker can show their creative side creating custom fonts and flourishes.

Recently, I have started to explore the narrative side of cartouches... using it to summarize what is interesting about a place. In my map of Sakhalin, I use the cartouche to document the progression of the island's names as it passed from its original inhabitants to subsequent colonizing powers.

The Island of Sakhalin lies North of Hokkaido, the northern-most island of Japan and East of mainland Russia. Overall the island is of limited interest. There is some oil but the climate is not great and there are no major cities. Despite the seaming lack of commercial interest, the island has been the subject of ongoing land disputes. It has a native population but was colonized by China, Japan and eventually Russia. In the 20th century, the island switched hands between Russia and Japan. A post-World War II treaty gave possession to Russia... the legitimacy of which is still disputed by Japan today. In researching the history of the island, I came upon a description in Wikipedia. Wikipedia summaries are particularly interesting in how much they pack into a paragraph or two usually with no one political or commercial agenda. The description also contains the name of the island in Chinese, Russian and Japanese so I decided that I would use these in my cartouche. The map is a "political" map in that the cartouche describes not only the evolving disputes over the island but the evolution of the name of the place in the various languages of its "owners". To highlight the dominance of the cartouche narrative and hint at the lack of interesting landmarks of the island, I left the map itself devoid of detail. The Island is surrounded by several bodies of water, several of which also have have multiple names given over the history of the island's discovery and history.

Post WW2 German Atlas with beautiful color palettes.

The map showing both a nature path and a forest path. I couldn't find any explanation for the numbers so I'm not entirely sure what they mean as there were numbered markers along the trail but without any text or signage. There are a large number of groomed x-country ski trails, too.

The Maxwellton community is located south of Salmon River Lake and east of Meteghan in Digby County, Nova Scotia. When the Western Counties (later Dominion Atlantic) Railway was put through during 1880's and 1890's this was one of the settlements that sprang up around the station becoming a distribution point for coast settlements.

Woking "Bus Station" - even though it's not a bus station and has never been referred to as a bus station in any bus publicity.

Also has regular bus services to... Woking.

These contour maps are simple to make - you need a function that takes two arguments (say x and y) and returns a third value (say z), which defines the location of that point on a colour map. If you get the function and the colour scheme right, you can get attractive abstract patterns.

This function is something like sin(x) * tan(y) = z.

I took the Roanoke Valley BUS Metro map and simplifed it down to resymble the New York City Subway Metro map.

It was fun and new for me. I found it funny how it's hard for me to symplify things but really easy to make things more complex. So i was stretched in that reguard.

I used mainly the pen tool and a few symbles. I liked having to tp use dashed lines.
