A southbound BNSF manifest eases out of the recently expanded siding at Marcel after waiting for a northbound Z train to clear.
While on my way to work I noticed the tail of a CP EB clearing thru Lovekin and made a quick detour at Westlyville. The morning fog mixed with the late sunrise made for abit of interest to an otherwise boring train.
A pair of BNSF units bracket a pair of NS units on an eastbound manifest. The train silently swings through the S-curve in Elk River on a great fall morning.
KCS Manifest M-VNKC-21 is still getting up to speed after a crew change at Mexico, Missouri on its way to KCS Knoche Yard. The SD70MACes are notched out as they rock along the jointed rails of the KCS Mexico Sub with 7,500 tons trailing behind.

The Southern Pacific had just over two months of independence remaining when this lumber drag was climbing the grade to Tunnel 17 near Dorris. It was nice to catch a clean Rio on the point, even if its light package had been lobotomized.
The appearance of DRGW 5354 begs the question of what looked worse - Rio Grande units that received SP-style numberboards with Espee's Roman font, or SP units that received DRGW-style numberboards with the standard Rio Grande gothic font.
Challenging myself as usual. I nearly always have difficulty creating symmetry on these type of rotation shots and tonight was no exception. Happy to be messing around in the conservatory whilst the wind and rain is coming down outside.

NS 5622 leads Pittsburgh Line local NS C42 westbound through Mill Creek, Pennsylvania, along the Middle Division of the NS Pittsburgh Line.
A BNSF manifest follows along the flathead river as it rolls easily downhill towards West Glacier just ahead. Behind the mountains to Glacier National Park loom over the tight river valley.

A long manifest train is catching some rays while gaining a little speed as he passes through Munger.
BNSF 4331 leads manifest train CSX M652 westbound through Moss Run, Virginia, along the CSX Alleghany Subdivision.
This is from my first month of "serious" railfanning, as if I can ever be serious. Something that used to be common as could be and now can't be replicated, since the GE borg has usurped many of the number series that rightfully belonged to EMD's. I seem to remember that this was a steamy hot afternoon and I was pretty excited to get a train pointed toward the afternoon sun. It took so little to satisfy me back then.
Rays of light burst though the clouds as a west bound manifest waits for an east bound to clear before heading towards the east portal of the Moffat Tunnel.
Not only must this train wait for the opposing train to clear, but also for the extract fans to clear the tunnel of exhaust gasses.
