Le Pain Quotidien, Manhattan

Manhattan Beach, Brooklyn, New York

Brooklyn Bridge in New York.

I didn't have my tripod with me when we ended up serendipitously in the Brooklyn Bridge Park - I'd planned a visit later on in the holiday but our wanderings around downtown led us to the pedestrian access to the bridge, and one thing led to another. So I consider myself very fortunate to have walked away with a usable image given that I had to use the camera strap to tie the camera to pipe railings for the long exposure, and I kept tight hold as well to ensure it didn't unravel and fall into the river!

This is a rework of a previously posted colour image. I'm trying different styles and processing options for many of my images in what I view as a return to my photographic roots of black and white photography that I used to practice in the last century. Well now, doesn't that just make me sound really, really old!

Thank you for visiting my work.

As a true tourist I went to DUMBO and took a photo just like any other tourist.

Manhattan, From Brooklyn

Another one of the view from my hotel room in New York four years ago. I could have sat looking at it all evening!

Montana Rail Link’s Bozeman local heads back home, rolls smartly through Manhattan, Montana—after exchanging cars with the Logan local at Logan on October 11, 2023.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

View of the West Side of Manhattan from Hamilton Park in Weehawken, NJ – the top panorama is taken near the beginning of the golden hour, the middle right before sunset, and the bottom at the peak of the blue hour. The sun was setting behind me. Near sunset, there are beautiful natural red colors in the light being projected on the Manhattan skyline.

The view spans from Columbus Circle around 59th on the far left to Madison Square Park at 23rd Street on the far right. The Chrysler Building can be seen between the buildings just to the right of the middle and the Empire State Building stands tall at 34th.

Each photo is a panorama stitched together from 13 portrait images in PTGUI (about 40% overlap, with extra room on the left and right). The original is about 24,000 pixels across.

Really Right Stuff TVC-33 tripod with a BH-55 ballhead. A high-end tripod like this makes a big difference given how windy it is in the park.

I took similar panoramas last year using a Canon 6D. I definitely notice the better dynamic range of the Sony A7R II in the original photos.

Manhattan Pier, Manhattan Beach, California.

Took this shot duing my trip to Southern California. Sky was kind of plain at sunset but this there was lot of water wave action around the pier.. Went under the pier, setup tripod and made several attempts to get the right shot.

MANHATTAN NV.CHURCH....moved from Belmont nv I think

The name Manhattan derives from the word Manna-hata, as written in the 1609 logbook of Robert Juet, an officer on Henry Hudson's yacht Halve Maen (Half Moon). A 1610 map depicts the name as Manna-hata, twice, on both the west and east sides of the Mauritius River (later named the Hudson River). The word "Manhattan" has been translated as "island of many hills" from the Lenape language.

New York County is one of seven counties in the United States to share the same name as the state in which they are located. The others are Arkansas, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Oklahoma, and Utah counties.

The United States Postal Service prefers that mail addressed to Manhattan use "New York, NY" rather than "Manhattan, NY"

A four-second exposure just after sunset as the lights have all come on in Lower Manhattan and the last clouds of a passing storm help divide the last light of day from the coming night.

Long Exposure of Manhattan. I added the water reflection since in reality the water was black because of the cloud cover.
