“I’m by nature an introvert. But since class participation in SMU carries a great weight in your overall grades, it forces you to rethink whether or not to speak up in class. You slowly develop the habit of doing so, and then you realise it’s not scary after all. In fact, it’s through class participation that you learn from your peers and not just your professor.” — Yeo Gek Min, Justices' Law Clerk, Supreme Court of Singapore Double Degree in Law and Business Management, Summa Cum Laude, 2014 Common Acceptance closes on 2 June. Fresno State Plant Science Department professor Dr. Sharon Benes and her SW101 Crop Nutrition class harvested romaine lettuce at the campus horticulture unit for its semester-long experiment on nitrogen management. The class harvested and donated approximately 1,100 heads of the lettuce to the Fresno Rescue Mission that distributed them to other area food banks and the Fresno State student pantry.

Special thanks to plant science students Joel Aguilera and Ulysses Bottino who did much of the daily management. Another 700 heads were also harvested from rows that were allocated to Dr. Anil Shrestha's PLTH105 Weeds class. photo April 12, 2016, by Geoff Thurner, Copyright 2016.
