March marks the anniversary of the passing of beloved EOP Director, José Luis Vargas. Three years after his passing, he continues to be missed and remembered by the CSUN EOP community.
Mr. Vargas led EOP with passion, conviction, and professionalism. He mentored thousands of students and uplifted them to believe in themselves and succeed in higher education. The program's mission will continue through the dedication and hard work of its leaders, staff, and most of all our EOP students.
In a joyous and heartfelt event, the retirement of the esteemed Professor Omatsu was celebrated, honoring his remarkable career and unwavering service to our community. On Tuesday, May 7, 2019, EOP hosted a recognition reception for its graduating seniors. At the event students had the chance to to connect with their peers and they also received a commemorative EOP graduation sash, a small token from their "EOP family" to publicly acknowledge their hard work and dedication. This year marks the 50 years of the Educational Opportunity Program and we have commemorated this special occasion with our special edition “EOP 50 years” sash. The sash is a representation of not only the success of our students but the program’s 50 years of changing lives through continuous innovation. We can’t wait to see our graduating students wear it proudly during CSUN’s commencement ceremonies.
Attending the event were also former EOP students receiving their post graduate degree, who were honored with a medal.

On Tuesday, May 6th, the Educational Opportunity Programs hosted a reception to recognize the accomplishments of graduating EOP Seniors. This year, the program will be anticipating the graduation of more than 600 EOP students.
At the event students received a complimentary EOP Sash, a token of appreciation from the program to publicly acknowledge their hard work. Students also had the opportunity to reconnect with members of the EOP Community.
The merchants, friends and businesses in Village of Oak Creek donated over 60 fabulous door prizes that benefitted the kids.

As part of an ongoing commitment to the San Francisco community and partnership with the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, the Tagged team recently visited Ocean Beach for a company-wide volunteer event. Over 100 Tagged employees took up trash duty for the day in an effort to beautify and preserve the California Coast.

On Tuesday, March 27, 2018, the Educational Opportunity Programs at California State University, Northridge hosted its first annual José Luis Vargas Scholarship Awards.
The ceremony honored the contributions made by Mr. Vargas and scholarships were awarded to students who embody EOP’s core values, practice RRAM and exemplify academic excellence. The event was also an opportunity for EOP alumni to reconnect and share their fondest memory of Mr. Vargas.
