Raw bricks are stacked building a kiln from the very bricks to be fired. I have seen a propane gas firing, and i am sure they use wood or anything else they can burn. They also toss in materials, like cow manure and straw, that will change the color and surface of the bricks. They start the firing very early in the morning. I have made a few plans to get there before the sun comes up, but don't make it in time.
