We had fun playing with new STEAM toys at the Downtown Library to kick off our VERTEX Programs (STEAM, Create-Play-Learn and Teen Create-Space) for kids and teens. Check the calendar for more fun programs!
Edinburgh Mini Maker Faire is the grand finale of Edinburgh International Science Festival. The Faire is a day-long celebration of creativity in all its forms for both children and adults.
For the fifth consecutive year it gathered fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists, scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a chance for these makers to show off their hobbies, experiments and projects, and for visitors to discover new ways to make their own ideas a reality.
Organised and presented by Edinburgh International Science Festival. Operated under license from Maker Media. Edinburgh Mini Maker Faire 2017 is supported by Dialog Semiconductor. With thanks to our venue Summerhall.

During BJU’s Homecoming events on October 10-12, M&G hosts a curated market of handmade art, crafts, and designs created by BJU grads, current and former faculty/staff, and current and former students. The Makers come from around the country and feature a variety of items including handmade cards, pottery, illustrations, water color paintings, jewelry, fiber art, woodworking, calligraphy, gourmet popcorn and more! Maker Battery is a late nineteenth coastal artillery battery in Cornwall that is typical ofbatteries reflecting the technological and political changes of the time. Constructed in 1887 to expand the capabilities of the nearby Grenville Battery, Maker was initially equipped with a single 12.5-inch Rifled Muzzle Loading (RML) gun. This was expanded 3 years later to three 12.5-inch RML guns. By 1900 these were outdated and outgunned armaments, and while a proposal for 9.2-inch BL guns was dismissed, in 1903 the battery's two northern emplacements were upgraded to the 6-inch BL Mk. VII. Enduring another 8 years the battery was disarmed in 1911 and never reutilised.
The three emplacements are in good condition, each with their associated subterranean magazines. The 12.5-inch RML emplacement retains its pivot, race and traversing arc.
Maker Battery is owned by a nearby estate and rented out to private tenants. This was a permission visit with the tenant who was on site.
