The Sutro Baths in San Francisco opened in 1896 as the world’s largest indoor swimming pool complex with 6 saltwater pools, 1 freshwater pool, a 2700-seat amphitheater, and an ice skating rink. However, due to high operating costs and a fire in 1966 when the building was already in the process of being torn down, the only structures that remain are now in ruins. Today the Sutro Baths is maintained by the US National Park Service and is a scenic hiking area for locals and tourists alike.

I visited the Sutro Baths on a cool windy September day. Unfortunately, I arrived just before sunset and spent the remaining time taking pictures that I didn’t really have much time to explore the surrounding areas. I hear to the right of the picture near the rocks that there’s a tunnel leading to the other side of the rocks. There’s also a great deal of hiking trails behind my view that lead all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge. The most surprising part to me was the baths were only torn down 50 years ago as the ruins appeared much older and reminded me of some Roman baths in the UK and Italy.

Wood Warbler - Phylloscopus sibilatrix

The wood warbler (Phylloscopus sibilatrix) is a common and widespread leaf warbler which breeds throughout northern and temperate Europe, and just into the extreme west of Asia in the southern Ural Mountains.

This warbler is strongly migratory and the entire population winters in tropical Africa.

It is a summer visitor to the United Kingdom, seen from April until August. It has declined there in recent years. It is now very rare in Ireland, where only one or two pairs are recorded breeding in most years, usually in County Wicklow.

Various factors associated with forest structure, including slope, forest cover, proportion of broad-leaf forest, canopy height and forest edge length, all influenced the occupancy rates of this declining forest species. Conservation measures are therefore required that provide and maintain the wood warblers preferred forest structure. There is also a preference for forest in the non-breeding season, however this habitat is declining in wintering areas such as Ghana. Despite the decline in forest habitats, there has been no change in number of wood warblers as it appears that this species can use degraded habitats, such as well-wooded farms. However, further loss of trees will likely have a negative impact on this species in the future

Turtles are unable to regulate their body temperatures independently, so they are completely dependent on the temperature of their environment. For this reason, they need to sunbathe frequently to warm themselves and maintain their body temperatures.

The red-eared slider gets its name from the small, red stripe around its ears, or where its ears would be, and from its ability to slide quickly off rocks and logs into the water.

Red-eared sliders are native to the Southern United States and northern Mexico, but have become established in other places because of pet releases, and have become an invasive species in many areas where they outcompete native species.

The carapace of this species can reach more than 40 cm (16 in) in length, but the typical length ranges from 15 to 20 cm (6 to 8 in). The females of the species are usually larger than the males. They typically live between 20 and 30 years.

Old houses always have vibes. This one was particularly interesting. It is maintained beautifully, but has some rather strange vibes coming off of it is in an area that could be very busy. It brings nothing to the area because it’s been closed for quite some time.. i’ve always thought when I see really interesting properties if walls could talk, what would they say? This house didn’t seem to be able to share. No one seems to know the story of the closures of every business that has tried to survive in this historic building. The only comments I obtained from a couple of locals is that the place is haunted and very creepy.. one lady shared a worker has been coming and going doing some restoration and his constant companion, a small, mixed breed dog stops, staring at the door, and refuses to go in even though her owner is in there. That is a curious thing. As the little dog is quite adventurous per the lady, and always accompanies him on all jobs . hmmm

In a world where everyone is over exposed,

the coolest thing you can do is maintain your mystery.

Aperi is a mountain town located eight kilometers north of the capital, and dates back to the Middle Ages, which was a time of pirate attacks. Aperi is at a height of 350 meters, is built behind the mountains and is not visible from the sea. It is at the foot of Mount Hamali, on which are the ruins of a Venetian castle.

A stream of water flows under a stone bridge, and in the village there are many plane trees, cypresses, lemon trees, and abundant flowers.

Between 1700 and 1892, Aperi was the capital of the island. It is still the seat of the Archbishop of Karpathos and the nearby island of Kasos.

The population had declined in the hard years after World War II, leaving some homes in ruins. Now the trends are slightly increasing, and there are several mansions quite large and well maintained like the one in the photo.

The locals try to keep the local customs alive, as some of them are unique. "Gilles", a celebration dedicated to the newborns and the couples who got married in the village last year, and "Klidonas", an ancient custom and divination tool for girls who are looking for a man to get married.

CORNWERD - The Afsluitdijk, length 32 km (19,88 miles) is protecting the Netherlands from the Sea for more than eighty years. However, the dyke no longer meets the current requirements for flood protection.

Rijkswaterstaat is therefore going to reinforce the Afsluitdijk. The body of the dyke will be widened and raised by about 2 metres and the cladding on the outer side will be replaced. Concrete blocks will be placed over the existing basalt blocks on the lower slope. These 'Level blocks X Plus' weight 6,500 kilograms each and have a wave retardant effect. Because of their symmetry and the regular way they are positioned, the blocks have a tranquil appearance that reinforces the austere and autonomous character of the dyke. Every block will be GPS chipped, making them easy to inspect and maintain.

The Arizona State Capitol in Phoenix, Arizona, United States, was the last home for Arizona's Territorial government, until Arizona became a state in 1912. Initially, all three branches of the new state government occupied the four floors of the statehouse. As the state expanded the branches relocated to adjacent buildings and additions. The 1901 portion of the Capitol is now maintained as the Arizona Capitol Museum with a focus on the history and culture of Arizona. The Arizona State Library which occupied most of the 1938 addition until July 2017 re-opened in late 2018 as a part of the Arizona Capitol Museum.

This statue stands in the Jardins Biovès in Menton, France, a lush and meticulously maintained public garden located in the city center along Avenue Boyer. The statue visible is the “Monument to Queen Victoria”, commemorating her visit to Menton in 1882. The sculpture depicts Queen Victoria with a symbolic guardian angel by her side, paying homage to her significance and the role she played in popularizing the French Riviera as a winter destination among British aristocracy.

Surrounded by palm trees, rose-covered arches, and seasonal flower displays, the monument adds a regal historical touch to the tropical ambiance of the gardens. The setting, with the backdrop of the mountains and Belle Époque architecture, captures the elegance and timeless charm of Menton...

Macro Mondays ....... Theme " Evolution "

The colourful flower of the sweet pea and the pod backlit with the seeds growing inside. Showing the evolution of the plant over it's life to maintain next season's growth.

From it's most earliest days in the early 1900's to it's sad end in the mid 1950's Packard maintained a signature design element on their grill surrounds. Starting lower on the sides the grill surrounds would bump up and raise in the center, and you will find versions of this on every model of every Packard for every year of Packard's existence. When I first came upon the Reo in the photo the first thing I noticed was the Packard like grill surround, and thinking, in fact, that it was indeed a Packard. Well, that was only true until I noticed the emblem in the center with the letters R E O emblazoned on it. Like Packard in their day, Reo was considered somewhat of a luxury automobile, and as such, they were priced accordingly. I suspect, however, that they didn't have the same panache that Packard enjoyed. So, was the Packard like grill surround on this 1930 Reo a design coincidence, or could you say that "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?" REO, the company, was founded by the former founder and owner of the Oldsmobile company, Ransom E. Olds (Notice the first letters in his name REO.) The company started in Lansing, Michigan, and had a long and somewhat successful history producing cars and trucks from 1905 to 1975. In 1936, Reo stopped producing cars in favor of devoting it's time to the end in 1975 to producing trucks.

Vince M

Although truck orders during World War II enabled it to revive somewhat, the company remained unstable in the postwar era, resulting in a bankruptcy reorganization. In 1954, the company was still underperforming, and sold its vehicle manufacturing operations (the primary asset of the company) to the Bohn Aluminum and Brass Corporation of Detroit. Three years later, in 1957, Reo's vehicle manufacturing operation became a subsidiary of the White Motor Company. White then merged REO with Diamond T Trucks in 1967 to form Diamond Reo Trucks. In 1975, this company filed for bankruptcy and most of its assets were liquidated. Volvo later took over White and thus currently owns the rights to the REO brand name.

My daughter, Jessica, who lives in Estes Park, Colorado and turned 25 today, sent me a few photos of an unexpected group of celebrants who had gathered in her backyard to extend their best wishes. On closer inspection, you will note the bull of the elk herd in the upper right maintaining a rightful and appropriate distance from the females, no doubt making sure they behave properly and don't get rowdy.

There are many windpumps scattered around the Norfolk countryside and they were originally used to drain the land. They are in various states of decay and people often mistake them for windmills. This one at Horsey is on the broads not far from Winterton-on-sea and is maintained by the National Trust (NT)

Zoar is a village in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, that was founded by German religious separatists in 1817, and survived as a communal settlement for more than 80 years. Many of the original buildings still exist, as does a large public garden that occupies a central area of the village. The gardens, part of which are seen here, are said to be preserved and maintained as they were in the 1800s.

The Amnye Machen range, which forms the large bend of the Ma chu རྨ་ཆུ་ ( Yellow River), is the ancestral homeland of the Golok; and the sacred abode of the protector deity, Machen Pomra, revered by Bonpo and Buddhists alike. The county capital is located at Tawo (Machen), Area: 16.625 sq km. www.footprinttravelguides.com/c/2848/tibet/&Action=pr... Golok - Sertal and Ngawa The Bayankala and Amnye Machen ranges of Amdo demarcate the upper reaches of the Headwaters of the Ma chu རྨ་ཆུ་ ( Yellow River), homeland of the Golok; while the Mardzagang range forms a watershed between the Ma chu (Yellow River) and the three main sources of the Gyarong: the Ser chu, Do chu, and Mar chu. This entire region is the domain of independently minded Nomadic peoples who have maintained their distinctive cultural traditions for centuries. Four of the six counties currently included in the Golok Tibetan Autonomuos Prefecture of Qinghai (Amdo) occupy the valley of the Ma chu ( Yellow River), whereas the other two, Padma and Jigdril along with those of Sertal, Dzamtang and Ngawa, all lie within the gorges and valleys of the Gyarong source rivers. Nowadays the counties of the Golok Tibetan Autonomuos Prefecture are administered from Machen, Sertal from Dartsedo (in the Kandze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture), and the last two from Barkham, within the Ngawa Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan province. www.footprinttravelguides.com/c/2848/tibet/&Action=pr...

San Francisco has maintained its reputation as a center of cultural bohemianism. In earlier years it had drawn writers from Mark Twain to Jack London, and it became a center for the 1950s beat poets and for the Haight-Ashbury hippie counterculture that peaked with the 1967 “Summer of Love.”

One of my favorite things about birding adventures is visiting a rookery. With the constant bickering over nest sites, screeching, squawking, garbling and endless chasing, there's constant enjoyment and it's truly 'a sight to behold'. This Cattle Egret was maintaining a constant watch over a selected nest sight where his mate was sitting...you don't want to mess with them!

One of life's precarious mysteries...mastered by a duck! ;-))

Some Hadada ibis maintain a pair bonding throughout the year. Commonly, a female, with her wings half-open, approaches a male and touches her beak to his beak. After this brief mutual beak-to-beak touching, she resumes feeding elsewhere among the party. Billing behavior of pairs includes rattling of beaks up and down and side-to-side while nodding heads. Courtship includes the offering of sticks by each bird to the other 😄, followed by neck intertwining, mutual preening, head shaking

At Pashley Manor Gardens you will discover 11 acres of beautiful borders and vistas – the culmination of a lifetime of passion for gardening, an appetite for beauty and an admiration of the tradition of the English Country garden. These graceful gardens, on the border of Sussex and Kent, are family owned and maintained – visitors often express delight at the attention to detail displayed throughout and the intimate, peaceful atmosphere.

All the ingredients of the English Country Garden are present – sweeping herbaceous borders, ha-ha, well maintained lawns, box hedges, espaliered rose walk, historic walled garden, inspiring kitchen garden, venerable trees and the Grade I listed house as a backdrop. The gardens are a haven for wildlife – bees, butterflies and small birds as well as moor hens, ducks and a black swan. Then, of course, the plants! Borders overflowing with perennials and annuals – the look changing through the seasons, but always abundantly filled, and each garden ‘room’ planted in a different colour theme.

Pashley is also renowned for fantastic displays of tulips, roses and dahlias. Our annual Tulip Festival features more than 48,000 tulips this year! During Special Rose Week over a hundred varieties of rose swathe the walls, climb obelisks and bloom in flower beds. Then in late summer our Dahlia Days event transforms the gardens once more with bountiful, brightly coloured dahlias in every border and pot.

Add to all this a Café and Terrace with excellent garden views, serving delicious homemade lunches, scones and cakes; Sculpture and Art Exhibitions; a Gift Shop with Plant Sales; and a friendly, knowledgeable team waiting to welcome you, and the recipe for a wonderful day out is complete.

Covered bridges were once very common in the United States. Now, they are historical landmarks and quaint reminders of a time gone by.

Wooden truss bridges were somewhat hazardous and deteriorated rapidly in the elements. Because the planks of the roadbed were oiled, they became quite slick when wet, and the wood tended to rot pretty fast when exposed to rain/snow year round. Hence, the covered bridge.

This bridge, in Manns Choice, Pennsylvania, is known as the Herline Bridge. Constructed in 1902, it is a more recent addition to the covered bridge collection. Pennsylvania, although a leading producer of steel, was slow to convert to steel bridges, preferring the more rustic look of these structures. At 136' long it's the longest in Bedford County, and is maintained in excellent condition by the state.

The red cliffs of Capitol Reef tower above the well maintained homestead in Fruita, Utah. The cliffs were, formed by windblown sand deposits (Wingate Formation, thicker lower layer, 200 MYA) and from riverine depsosits (Kayenta Formation, upper layer, ca. 180 MYA). The white dome sticking up in the back is Navajo Sandstone, deposited as sand in a desert environment.

Once one of the most isolated communities in the U.S., Fruita (formerly known as "Junction") is now HQ for Capitol Reef National Park, who maintain fruit orchards and a few of the old buildings. The campground is one of the most scenic in the NPS system, just behind where this was taken. The park is a great example of how human impact on the landscape is nicely blended in with the surroundings, with "historical" orchards adjacent to 1500+ year old petroglyph panels, just below the cliffs of the reef.

Unless we step into the uncharted territory of the gender revolution, we know exactly where we will be regressing. An all-powerful State that infantilises us, interferes in all our decisions for our own good and—under the pretext of protecting us—keeps us in a childish state of ignorance, fear of punishment and exclusion. The special treatment until now reserved for women, with shame as the primary tool for ensuring their isolation, passivity and lack of protest, could now be extended to all. To understand the mechanics of how women have been made to feel inferior, and induced to willingly maintain themselves in this state, is to understand how the entire population is kept under control. Capitalism is an egalitarian religion, in the sense that it demands general submission, making everyone feel trapped—as all women are.
