Krakow is a very charming old town in Poland, and my hometown. Some of my American friends say it's as beautiful as Prague.

The main square of the Old Town of Kraków, Lesser Poland, is the principal urban space located at the center of the city. It dates back to the 13th century, and at roughly 40,000 m2 (430,000 ft2) is one of the largest medieval town squares in Europe.

The Project for Public Spaces (PPS) lists the square as the best public space in Europe due to its lively street life.

The main square is a rectangular space surrounded by historic townhouses (kamienice) and churches. The center of the square is dominated by the Cloth Hall (Sukiennice), rebuilt in 1555 in the Renaissance style, topped by a beautiful attic or Polish parapet decorated with carved masks. On one side of the cloth hall is the Town Hall Tower (Wieża ratuszowa), on the other the 10th century Church of St. Adalbert and 1898 Adam Mickiewicz Monument. Rising above the square are the Gothic towers of St. Mary's Basilica (Kościół Mariacki). Kraków Main Square does not have a town hall, because it has not survived to the present day.

A partial view of the main square of the historic town of Betanzos on a Sunday. In the 15th century it was one of the provincial capital of Galicia. It now has a population of over 13,000 and is considered to be probably the most beautiful town in Galicia. For pilgrims doing the Camino de Santiago it is a prized sight after a final long and steep walk up the hill to this square.

Fountain on the Mainsquare of Deventer

HELLO 👋, MY NAME IS BART ROS. And I am an architecture, interior and city photographer working in the Deventer and Overijssel region.

Check out my website at:

www.bartros.nl

And I am an architecture, interior and city photographer working in the Deventer and Overijssel region. You can find me almost daily on the IJssel or in the historic streets of our Hanseatic cities in the Netherlands. Busy bringing you unique images. We can use these images together for marketing purposes and online media. In addition, I make books and calendars of my photography, I teach and I have fun photo walks several times a year.

As a photographer I am based in Deventer; a beautiful historic city, surrounded by nature. The result of my love for photography and the city of Deventer is the 'Deventer calendar' with 12 unique photos and city views of Deventer and the surrounding area. And a book about Deventer with even more unique images called "Extraordinary Deventer 2: Deventer and Surroundings".

I am originally a multimedia engineer and graphic designer, but since a few years I have also focused on photography. From a young age I have always been drawing, painting and taking apart radios, TVs and old cameras. I combine these technical and form-technical interests in my professional life by developing websites, graphic design and photography. As a photographer I can capture the world as I see it.

Beeil' dich. 12 Uhr mittags ist vorbei.

Well, the sheriff won't wait around the corner. But somehow this man seems to be under time pressure ;-) I sat comfortably on the edge of this great square of Siena, marveled at the magnificent buildings, watched the busy people and enjoyed the sun. My camera on my lap, luckily ready for use. Otherwise I wouldn't have caught him – he had appeared behind me so quickly ;-)

Although I'm completely against horse drawn carriages in any cities, I must admit I enjoy looking at these beautiful animals every time I visit my hometown. They looked well taken care of, so that gave me some peace of mind.

It was really challenging to take a good capture of this altar, especially with some many people around, and I know this is not perfect, but decided to share it.

La Plaza Mayor es el centro del casco viejo y sigue siendo lugar de encuentro en la ciudad. Rodeada de edifcios nobles, tiene forma irregular y la rareza de tener el suelo inclinado.

According to chronicler Jan Długosz, Saint Mary's Bacilica in the Main Square in Kraków was founded in 1221–22 by the Bishop of Kraków, Iwo Odrowąż. The building was destroyed during the Mongol invasion of Poland. Between 1290–1300 the new early Gothic church was built on the remaining foundations. It was consecrated twenty years later, in 1320.

The church was completely rebuilt during the reign of Casimir III the Great between 1355 and 1365 with substantial contributions from wealthy restaurateur Mikołaj Wierzynek.

Just a very quick snapshot from my recent trip to Cracow. I really love the huge main square there and on this day we were also lucky to get some beautiful sunset light. Hope you like it!

The Royal Road or Royal Route (Polish: Droga Królewska) in Kraków, Poland, begins at the northern end of the medieval Old Town and continues south through the centre of town towards Wawel Hill, where the old royal residence, Wawel Castle, is located. The Royal Road passes some of the most prominent historic landmarks of Poland's royal capital, providing a suitable background to coronation processions and parades, kings' and princes' receptions, foreign envoys and guests of distinction traveling from a far country to their destination at Wawel.
