Saw these in The Mountains of San Diego County, Some of the bushes on the Mountainsides are so thick with these fronds that the hillsides appear to have a silvery appearance. The fronds are what is left of the flower.
The Mountain Mahogany is not a Mahogany but belongs to the Rose Family

A female bighorn sheep ( Ovis canadensis) gazes on curl-leaf mountain mahogany (Cercocarpus ledifolius) at Devil’s Canyon Overlook in Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area. The overlook is located just north of the Wyoming State Line in Montana. Mountain mahogany is a favorite snack of the bighorn sheep.
The Mahogany Billed Toucan is also know by another name now. It is a large toucan and larger than many of the others. I have not seen them as frequently as others so it is always a thrill when he shows up.
Wishing you all a blessed weekend !!!!!

Mahogany is a straight-grained, reddish-brown timber of three tropical hardwood species of the genus Swietenia, indigenous to the Americas.
I shot this with a Pentax 645 and a Pentax 55mm f4 lens. Film is Fomopan 100 developed in Kodak D-76

Sycamore leaf standing on its own. The Sun highlighting its reddish brown color. I only increased the contrast a bit to make it stand out a little more, did a burn layer using a action from, CoffeeShop and added a frame, texture is my own.
©Lela Bouse-McCracken ::: "True or alderleaf mountain mahogany commonly grows on plains, foothills, rocky slopes, ridges, ledges, and bluffs. It grows between elevations of 4,000 and 8,000 feet, but typically between 6,000 and 8,000 feet. Mountain mahogany commonly grows in coarse, shallow, well-drained residual soils in sunny areas, and it sometimes grows in the moist, fertile, relatively deep soil of canyon bottoms."
This particular plant was not in a canyon, but on the rim of the 'Black Canyon of the Gunnison' in Colorado.

Work of D. Luis Álvarez Duarte (1949-2019), master sculptor and image maker from Seville.
It is made of real cedar wood, and its tree cross is made of Brazilian mahogany. Natural size, he measures 1.80 m. and represents our Lord crucified and dead. For its author, its appearance is serene and sweet but at the same time, it represents the good death of our Redeemer who invites us to pray and recollection.
It is proportioned and collected, performing its live carving without any prior modelling. Its style is baroque, recalling the great works of the masters of the Sevillian and Andalusian school of the 17th and 18th centuries, with the imprint of the master sculptor.
No synthetic material was used in its execution. Thus, the polychromy was developed following the traditional methods based on oil paints and polishing it with "tripilla" of sheep. It was patinated with natural earths and wax, bathing it before and after finishing the carving with animal glues or "totín", and calcium sulphates for the base of the polychromy.
The first gouge blow was given on October 25, 1998, with which the execution of the carving began, culminating with its blessing, on Saturday, April 8, 2000, in the Parish Church of the Virgen del Rosario in Roquetas de Mar. (Almería), where it can be seen.
Tokyo normally is known for some of it's tightly compact skyscrapers and apartment complexes, some clean, some filthy. Often accompanied by neon signs and lights. And then, amidst all that, there's this. An incredibly random decaying red castle that looks like it has nothing to do with Japan that it's almost funny. The Ohjo building.
I have no idea what this place was built for or why, but today it hosts techno raves for some reason (so I wouldn't have gone in even if it was open at this time). But having this random location in a large urban setting oddly enough provides a good contrast.
After an extensive hunt spanning months I found "that 1 shot" of Ohjo at night and narrowed out it's location and name. On 2 separate days, and 2 separate ends of my trip, I scouted out Ohjo for the options on compositions. This one being my first one. There wasn't anything particularly challenging to note. This is just a street side view looking up. The windows looked incredibly glossy which I guess adds to the architecture of the shot. You can barely see a neon sign on the top of the building on the left, there were other inactive lights that I edited out, and ofcourse the only other thing that needed editing was ofcourse, the ever repulsive and perpetual white sky. Raised the clarity and lowered the exposure. Finding a balance on the sakura branch (not so much the blossoms, just the branch itself) also proved a bit time consuming, but you can't rush art.
I wonder how many people will realize this is Tokyo before I say it, cause it looks NOTHING like it.
Inhale my mahogany fragrance… I have no thorns to keep you away…. exhale when you have enough of me… water my soul with a promise of love… I don’t need much light…

Shooting Tips…
Do you ever get the feeling that you have run out of ideas? We have all been there… Don’t stress it… Listen, a mirror is perfect for adding that little something extra to your shots, place a flower on it and for light, use natural light and a new world will open… Reflection shots are always fun…
Now about this reflection shot; I shot this in my studio… I explained to my model what I had in mind… and what I wanted her to convey… If your model is comfortable and understands what you’re looking for, your shot will work… I took a piece of black Plexiglas and placed it on a table…I sat her behind the table, positioned her face so that the reflection was visible… notice my Aperture was at f/22 for sharpness… asking her to hold as still as possible--at 2.5 sec (5/2) that is an eternity!… I used one florescent lamp and a tripod… My background was black Foam core...

Regno Unito Londra, Knightsbridge, Autunno 2017

I’ve got a Husky toolbox for my wrenches and other tools but it seemed a crime to put wood tools in it. So I decided to build my dream toolbox. To keep with the wood theme, every component is wooden, the box, hinges, latches, and handle. The wood is honduran mahogany and the finish is lacquer.
Tails on the fruit (achenes) of Birch-leaf mountain mahogany, Cerocarpus betuloides, in the chaparral above our home at Midland.

Mountain mahoganies are not true mahoganies. They are shrubs in the rose family. Reaching this particular tree was one of the goals of our recent ATV trip into the Bear River Range. There is a nice little grove of these trees in a cluster on top of a ridge with this beauty right on the edge. Their wood is so dense that it doesn't float, and Native Americans used it for bows and spearheads. They grow on high elevation rocky slopes with a lot of sun but very little water. We thought the contorted trunk and rocky base were worth a photo.
