some sad news I have been expecting arrived yesterday ...

my dear Aunt Mal passed after battling cancer for many years ..

she had a good life and lived her entire life in Wales .. . she loved horses and farms .

when she discovered she had cancer she immediately arranged to hike the Pennine Way .. . this National Trail chases along the mountain tops along the rugged backbone of England and offers 268 miles of the finest upland walking in England. A once in a lifetime experience.

her energy and laughter and encouragement will be with me forever .. some special light never dies .. I miss her already ..

I came across this frost laden Magnolia in a walled garden at Astley Park and it is apparently over 100 years old!! Can only imagine how beautiful it must be when it’s in flower.

For those in the know its my 70th birthday today, all downhill from today!!

I believe this is a flower from a Magnolia tree.

The Magnolia tree is over 100 million years old. And is originally from China. The tree represents purity. At Buddhist temples there are Magnolias on either side of the entrance.

Magnolia has traditionally been used in Chinese folk medicine. The leaves are high in Honokiol and Magnolol. Substances that contain a stress and anxiety-reducing effect. They strongly lower the cortisol level (cortisol is the stress hormone). Magnolia is also known as a strong antioxidant.
