There are are two large brown coloured cave spiders found in the U.K.; Meta menardi and Meta bourneti. The two can only be distinguished by examining them with a strong magnifier.
They are amongst the largest spiders found in the U.K. Both species live in total darkness, so although they are not rare, they often go unnoticed.
The female cave spiders produce teardrop-shaped eggsacs, which hang suspended on a silk thread from the roof of their dwelling.
When the spiderlings first emerge they are attracted to light, unlike the adults which are strongly repelled by light. This helps the spiderlings find new areas to colonise.
The lights only came on briefly for visitors to safely walk through the grotto, it was hidden in a dark corner too.
Have a lovely weekend everyone

The Cheviot Hills. Northumberland National Park. (The small tree on the right has come free of the ground, probably due to the wind. Use the Flickr magnifier.)
Of note: the area in the photograph, just below the aforementioned subject of this endeavour (you gotta view with the magnifier to see it) looks all post-processed with magic tricks courtesy of Photoshop but, it ain't. Albeit, it is enhanced with that 'devil of pure photography', I will grant that but, the rotors must stir up all the air molecules or something cause sooc, it comes with all that distortion.

A collage of images from my long-serving guitar accessories suitcase: stickers, in part include The Fonz (thumbs-up, "Aaay!"), Jimi Hendrix, Ted Nugent (Oh! Who can forget the dulcet tones of the classic Cat Scratch Fever!), CN Tower when it actually was the Tallest Freestanding structure, Dean Markley guitar strings, Pink Floyd Pyramids (original LP insert for Dark Side of the Moon) and a bunch of other stuff. Viewing with the magnifier is pretty good.
A trusty old hand lens for field work and inspection of small objects.
Focus stack (55 images). Shot with a single off-camera flash, modified with MagMod MagBounce diffuser, camera left (about 60 degrees) and low to minimize reflections from lens and metal frame. White reflector placed to left of camera to fill-in shadows.

Hey, everyone!
Today's post is inspired by Stephen King's character Rose O'Hara, aka "Rose the Hat" leader of the True Knot gang. Although I'm team Danny Torrance all the way in Doctor Sleep, I was overwhelmed by Rebecca Ferguson's beauty playing Rose. Her boho demonic style is just amazing, right?!
Hope you like it! Xo! <3

For the third round broski's!
The lightweight weapon consists out of a combination between a shotgun that uses state-of-the-art Sweetwater reusable slugs, that can be filled with whatever can be found, such as rocks, screws, empty bullet casings, and so on.
The other part is a crossbow that fires regular bolts, that can be picked up again.
The weapon is for usage when ammo is finite, granting it a supply of reusable ammo.
The scope consists out of a regular (Electromagnatic-filed detecting) magnifier and a built-in computer that calculates the arrow's drop-off, and adjusts it to the planet's gravity.
Standard issue to every squad.

We had this fella visit us last night on our power pole. I think it's a youngster as we've had parent birds visit as well. I hope they catch all the mice in our garden below.
I shot this with my 200-500mm with the 1.4 magnifier and this is cropped by 2/3 the original size. I'm still getting practice for when I shot the total solar eclipse. My camera position was in our dining room shooting out the door some 75 feet away.

Water droplets. I tried to spend a day with my daughter at a beautiful garden. We had hoped for brilliant autumn leaves and reasonable weather All we got was a light misty rain. The end result was lots of photos of raindrops and mist.
Pretty cool with the magnifier.
*So recently, my good Flickr-friend (I have actually met him in person, btw), Richard Gardner-Warner (aka Visionheart) and I have chosen to trade a few song suggestions back and forth for our artistic offerings we post up here on the ol' Flickr. We just seem to gel when it comes to musical preferences, so it is a no-brainer in my books. Anyway, this delicate little fancy is being presented to you as a soundscape that might pleasure your 'earballs' whilst viewing this here piece of digital art. Very fine moosic and heartily endorsed by this here 'blartist' indeed!
*Add now, I might just add the actual link (23 days later... duh!): 'First Wave' - Mirror System.
I wasn't sure whet I was going to use for this challenge and then I thought about these which I used recently.
Belonged to my Father although I don't know what he used them for. They are worn on the head and the magnifier is hinged to lift up out of the way when not using. Provides hands free magnification and so it is very useful. This is in its original box, the bottom of which is velvet lined for protection. I used them recently when looking for that dreaded broken needle inside my machine. Ideal for close intricate work potentially jewellery work

The regular patterning, used to reflect light, resembles Necker cubes- with an optical illusion that makes distinguishing the tops from bottoms of individual units arbitrary.

I do have a lot of gear, but not everything. When I was in the Gear Acquisition Mode (income bracket), there are some very useful items that just never occurred to me to purchase, because I usually bought something when I had a project in mind. Now, that retirement has imposed itself upon me, I must make do or invent.
I have not done any macro work, in a while, because if I want to do it right, it requires a proper, well thought out set up, gathering all the camera accessories, such as attaching a Nikon DR-5 Right Angle View Finder Magnifier, which requires the Eyepiece be unscrewed and carefully set aside so I can find it again, and a Nikon MC-30 Remote Shutter Release, and the Nikon R1C1 Kit. That is before Expoure Settings and all are set. So, a proper job takes consistent effort and proper components, time and heaps of patience. Less, produces mediocre results.
By the way, initial rough focus was achieved by using a small flashlight ("torch" translated to Queen's English).

Magnifier is kind of cool here.
It is our local bakery and the products are top notch (which is why the shelves are so empty).
Taken for the Active Assignment Weekly! group. This week's assignment: Bokeh
Swore to myself to really get active again. So the topic "bokeh" was perfect for some experiments. I actually took nearly 200 photos (at some point you get desperate if the result is not what was made up by your mind) and then went to bed. Today after a night's sleep I was reviewing my trials and reduced down to 6 photos. This is the one that represents my idea best.
What it took: Taken with the magifier and the camera on two tripods and my fiberglass lamp (as seen here) as subject. I fired a decent flash to the ceiling as well to get a sharp structure and some highlights on the magnifier. I wanted to make sure that the picture does not apperar like overall misfocused (see large).
I wished to catch and give to feel the atmosphere so particular we find in my region during Christmas and New Year hollidays. The film Polaroid Blue was perfect for it, because with his almost unreal colors, he could glorify the enchantment of decorations and lights !
The Blue Project was initiated and created by "tripleZone" a Berlin based photographer. The project was published on the French website "Polaroid Passion"; see the announcement here www.polaroid-passion.com/galerie/triplezone/index.php?id=...
