This photo is for Ann. She was wondering what a Mosquito Magnet was, so I thought I'd post a picture of ours, as well as an explaination as to how they work. After a couple of years of operation - we can actually sit outdoors and not swat at the pesky critters. Princess Lodges, as well as other tourist establishments around the state of Alaska, use these wonderful and silent machines to keep their guests comfortable while they enjoy the magnificent scenery that sourrounds them.

*** The Mosquito Magnet works by copying the characteristics that attract mosquitoes to animals. It does this by giving off carbon dioxide. The way it gives off carbon dioxide is by having the propane from the tank hit a catalyst that causes the gas to become heat, water vapor, and most importantly, carbon dioxide. However, that isn't all that's needed to attract mosquitoes. There's a cartridge that mimics the sweat and breathing of a mammal. When placed upwind from the breeding ground of the mosquitoes, such as a pond, these scents will attract the pests. When the mosquito comes near the Mosquito Magnet, it gets sucked up by a vacuum inside the power head and into the mosquito bag. The mosquitoes will die of dehydration in the bag.

Built in 1938, Bailey Magnet's art-deco building has been marveled as an architectural wonder. Its Architect, A. Hays Town, while employed at J.W. Overstreet designed the building. It made the cover of a 1938 Life magazine for the school's forward look and his revolutionary technique of formed-in-place concrete.

I started collecting magnets back when I was fortunate enough to travel yearly for a work conference. The "Southernmost Point" one was the first ... I liked Key West so much I took my wife there.

I wish I could say I've been to Seoul, but that was a gift from my niece

A few of the Pull Pack (PP) Magnets that came in envelopes (which I also have but haven't matched up yet).

The previous photo shows these better (and more of them) while showing the evolution of my picture taking abilities over the course of this project... :D

I swear, they look so close together when I place them...

I really need help identifying the cards, especially the Sailormoon ones. After having packed them away for so many years I just can't remember so if anyone knows which set and series they are from please leave a comment and/or note. Thanks!

More Cards here.

There superstrong little magnets are completely hand-embroidered and handsewn. Made out of lightweight canvas and felt, each magnet is cushioned with two layers of cotton batting - like a little pillow. The magnet is inside. They measure 1.25" square or 3.2cm.

Uses 4137 Zen Magnets, although the shape can be made larger or smaller by altering the edge length of the frames, or the connection between them.

Uses the FCC-8 lattice because I like this lattice. :)

Also as a note, the shape is very stable, even for the FCC-8 lattice.

Only 15 bucks, but plenty of psychological torture trying to get the stupid little magnets to behave and not jump around and make out with each-other instead of gluing down. I'd recommend bigger magnets so you only have to use one (I used 3 little ones).

My hands are glued to EVERYTHING. There is no furniture in my house without gluey fingerprints.

My girls and I made marble magnets tonight in the lobby... tons of fun!
