My goal was downtown Downers where I hoped to catch some nicely lit westbounds. I landed trackside around 11:45 and to say the least things did not look promising; I had red signals all around and some kind of MofW work going on over in Westmont on M1. I made a beeline for the nearest passenger shelter; this was a situation that I wanted to take sitting down! Since the next commuter wasn’t due for another hour I had the shelter to myself, something I’m usually fine with (You will not find the term “people person” in my resume) but today I could have used the company since the cold made the time stretch uncomfortably.
Taking a break from sitting around (now that’s a new concept!) I went for a little hike down to the station to check the commuter schedules and found that both directions were some time off, good news actually because just then a westbound green popped up on M1! Since the light still didn’t quite favor westbounds I decided to stick with the station area where I could back off a bit for a wedgie and get the Tivoli block as a backdrop. Luckily I didn’t have a long wait, they still haven’t replaced the benches in front of the station (and I fear that that they never will), so I was pretty happy when I headlight popped up to the east on M2. Ok, what have we here; BNSF power, unit train of some sort, an oil maybe? No, an empty Magnetation ore! Wow, what luck, I’ve gone for months without seeing these things and now this would be my second in two days! And even better it had a big beautiful ACe leading so it was time to burn some electrons!

New magnet sculpture. Looks like I need to start investing in higher surface quality bearings. The 1 1/2" one is fine but the 1" ones are a bit bumpy.
Each magnet is an original pencil illustration and painted with acrylic paint. Non-toxic coating gives a nice shiny raised surface. A large strong magnet is fixed onto the back with industrial glue.
Original little works of art that are fun AND functional. Durable and unique. Perfect for gift giving or for keeps!
Each magnet measures 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) across.

Taken as described in the fingetip photo. Curiously, the South pole is redish, and the corona discharge in the center hole of the magnet appears to radiate parallel to the inner surface--something theorized but not proven about magnetic fields for a long time....
Chocolate candy magnets that work great as needle holders as well! The magnet on the back helps find that needle/pin you dropped... and then holds it while you select your next thread color!

We collect bottle caps and make strong magnets. Each magnet is unique. Right now we have four different themes: Einstein, Peace, Money and Skulls.

This image of two quadrupole magnets won third place in the global jury competition and second place in DESY's local competition. The global jury noted the photo's sense of humor, and the DESY jury’s association with this image was “monstrous force.” The image manages to combine seemingly contradictory things – there is no doubt that its subject is something technical, mechanic, scientific, but at the time the coils of the quadrupole magnets seem organic, like two greedy mouths. A well crafted visualisation of technical processes that captures the beholder’s attention.
