The legend of the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine centers around the Superstition Mountains. According to the legend, a German immigrant named Jacob Waitz discovered a mother lode in the Superstition Wilderness and revealed its location on his deathbed in Phoenix in 1891 to Julia Thomas, a boarding-house owner who had taken care of him for many years. Several mines have been claimed to be the actual mine that Waitz discovered, but none of those claims have been verified- Wikipedia

LIFE....July 1942..........Remember all who fought for our country before, during and after.......and now the brave people who are fighting to save our lives in a new war......

And a good WOOF to all of you, My Flickr Friends... This was created on a web site called MagMyPic and is a lot of fun...

Un simple regard est vecteur de beaucoup de choses, on dit après tout que le regard est le miroir de l'âme...

Alors quid d'un regard énucléé ? Quid d'un regard sans âme ?

Ô objets inanimés, souhaitez-vous notre perte ?

Walking back from a trip to get some drinks, I spotted this and just loved the colours of the yellow against the blue of the sky, someone remarked, it was like an advertisement for St Moritz cigarettes. I was not too sure if that was a compliment or not.

Thanks Young H for the idea and invite. This is fun!

Sometimes I feel lost in time...sometimes even like I'm not supposed to be in this time period (I should have been born in Old English times and I should have had an accent and wore big poofy skirted dresses with lots of lace & ruffle accents, lol). So that is what this particular image portrays for me personally. Like, obviously it's so out of place, and doesn't belong.....I am the clock (lol). Surrounded by beauty, yet still trying to find it's place.

some hands and feet. work i did on myself.

A passing pedestrian walks parallel to the grey outside entrance of the Stadelhofen train station, in Zurich, seemingly oblivious to both Calatrava's architecture and the publicities decorating it. A seaping wetness slicks down the high back walls flanking either side of a spiral cockscrew-type metal staircase that seems to drill down in the same direction as the water, into the ground.

Stadelhofen Station lies close to the Zürich Opera House and near Bellevue Square in Zürich. In the 1990s the train station was rebuilt by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. The station building from 1894 was preserved and the surroundings were completely redone in a fancy twist of modern art, thus forming a combination of the new and the old. I visited the place, a rainy Monday afternoon, after L' showed me a postcard in the tourist information booth. The station merits a return visit with a tripod and more time!

In the creator's own words,.. "This large-scale attack on the urban landscape is characterised by the organisation and repetition on the part of the constructive element.". —Santiago Calatrava

I was the assistant on this shoot so I cant take credit for the photography but this particular photo was shot and edited by me. The lighting was also done by me.

This is a new version of a picture I made last year. This version is made as a contribution to an illustration challenge on the Whitechapel message board.

New Worlds was a groundbreaking british SF anthology and it's last issue was #222.

The idea with this challenge is to imagine what a magazine like that would look like today and do the cover to an imaginary #223.

More info on the project here: freakangels.com/whitechapel/comments.php?DiscussionID=828...

My idea is to show that the best Science Fiction always is about the ideas and the new worlds these create in our minds.

This is also my 52 Designs for week 19.

Vertical beach sunset taken in the North of Peru. The abstract seascape was taken using the ICM (intentional camera motion) technique panning the camera from left to right at a slower shutter speed.

“Rarely, if ever, has science fiction plumbed so deeply and with such sensitivity the depths of human thoughts and emotions as in this case. For here, Earthmen’s vote has a direct effect upon the future of a planet, their own culture and the universe itself.” [Editor’s note]

“A Case of Conscience” is a Hugo Award-winning sci-fi novel about a Jesuit priest, Father Ruiz-Sanchez, sent to investigate the planet Lithia, inhabited by a reptilian race that has achieved a perfect, sinless, and logical society without religion or God. Lithia seems like a utopia, with its inhabitants living in perfect harmony, raising questions about original sin and the necessity of faith and morality.

The story centers on Father Ruiz-Sanchez’s deep psychological and spiritual crisis as he grapples with his scientific findings and religious doctrines. The core conflict is the struggle between his faith and the observable reality of a morally superior, yet godless, alien race. The story is a deep dive into logic, faith, and the nature of good and evil, wrapped in classic science fiction with strong theological underpinnings, exploring whether true perfection can exist outside of God's grace or if it's a sign of something far more sinister. Might it even be a diabolical deception justifying a quarantine to protect humanity, despite the Lithians’ apparent goodness?

The novel features detailed, imaginative settings, including Earth's post-nuclear underground society and Lithia's unique, mineral-scarce technology.

Norman Rockwell met a budding artist and young soldier from Washington State stationed in western Massachusetts in 1960. With a furlough coming up, he wrote to his idol, Norman Rockwell, asking if he might be allowed to visit. Receiving an unexpected invitation by mail, he traveled to Stockbridge and was introduced to the artist. “You’ll do,” said Rockwell on seeing his visitor, and he was cast on the spot as a leering window washer. – From “Behind the Camera” by Norman Rockwell.
