Everyone has coins lying around at home (less so as we all move towards paying with plastic!). We have something special though, you can check it out in this week's video here - youtu.be/DHB8ZojzTWE

You may notice that this is not your average one cent coin. In fact, we went shopping at fellow kickstarter creator Chris Ovdiyenko's store Dead on Paper. We grabbed two different "Hobo coins" to experiment with including the "John Henry" that you see here.

Using the Adaptalux Studio, we were able to get an accurate shot of the coin before experimenting with coloured Lighting Arms to add highlights. Picking out the details of the design can sometimes be an interesting lighting challenge, so we made use of diffusers and direct light in the various shots we took.

For the surface of this shot, we used a photoboard, they come in many different styles and are really great for shooting small subjects like this. you can see them here -https://www.photoboards.org

We have more details about the shoot, including more pics, on our blog here - bit.ly/AdaptaluxCoins

Behold the delicate subtlety of the common fly, often overlooked yet crucial to our ecosystems. More fascinating than often credited, these creatures play an active role in decomposing organic matter and indirectly support numerous food webs. How do you perceive the environmental impact of flies from this intricate portrayal?

Tried my best to convince this guy to come out for a macro portrait shoot but he wasn’t having any of it!

“Nabe is food cooked in a pot served as a central dish on the table”

Ishikari nabe, a mainstay in Hokkaido, includes salmon, various vegetables and tofu boiled in a ‘miso’ (bean paste) broth. Why is it called, ‘Ishikari Nabe’? Originally it was called, Salmon nabe or Coast nabe, which was fishermen’s food. When it was introduced to Tokyo as a local specialty it took the name Ishikari nabe, being easy to remember. It is quite rare that a local dish takes an area’s name in Japan, so it was lucky for Ishikari. And everyone knows that Ishikari nabe means salmon nabe.

Took me forever to find a way to carefully control smash marbles here. Finally figured it out by heating them up in an oven on high for a while then using a vice to crush them. Painting Rose was the easiest part, all she did was lay down on the floor for an hour while I painted streaks on her

Another amazing shot captured by UV expert Don using his Adaptalux Studio and UV lighting arms. For a full explanation of the shot, take a look at his post here - www.flickr.com/photos/donkom/45689224152

Felt like getting up-close with my super macro vision today. Candy was feeling the same way. Since it's an extremely cloudy, windy, dull day outside I thought I'd lighten up with all these wonderful colours.

Orb weaver starting to build its trap, it does it every evening in suitable corner of the garden, to consume it in the morning.

The recycled protein and energy to build it again.

Spiders that build the familiar orb-shaped web usually start with a single superstrength strand called a bridge thread or bridge line. ... First, the material for the bridge thread emerges from one of the spider's specialized silk glands and is formed into a strand by its spinnerets.
