The Paddock was a backup site for the Cabinet War Rooms in Whitehall. Now situated under a modern housing estate, it is opened twice a year to the public, allowing us to visit it on 16th September 2006 as part of London Open House weekend.
After the war, parts the bunker were used as a social club for Post Office workers from the neighbouring researh laboratories. Some of the features may date from this era. After this, it was left abandoned for decades, until it wsa reopened and made safe by the developers who built the estate.
