There is a large span between the bottom station and the next tower, and there is a diesel engine in here that they somehow use to evac people off the life incase it breaks down

 

Bending thin-wall 1/2" steel tube to match the contours of the lathe base was a bit of a trick - I had to make a spool-shaped bending block (in the vise) to keep the tube from kinking, and still had to hot-bend all the radii. Getting all the distances and angles just right required two tries - the tube in the back was the first attempt, which became the template for the final piece.

This little Trachte building sat behind Machinery Row for many years, used as a boathouse for the County Sheriff's Dept. It was demolished in 2009 and a new wood frame boathouse was built in its place.

The Paddock was a backup site for the Cabinet War Rooms in Whitehall. Now situated under a modern housing estate, it is opened twice a year to the public, allowing us to visit it on 16th September 2006 as part of London Open House weekend.

 

After the war, parts the bunker were used as a social club for Post Office workers from the neighbouring researh laboratories. Some of the features may date from this era. After this, it was left abandoned for decades, until it wsa reopened and made safe by the developers who built the estate.
