The western Front in Flanders, one of the most terrible battlefields of the First World War, which raged more than a hundred years ago. Untill today the real reason for this horror is unknown.

In this trenchwar an entire generation was wiped out from all camps.

There was hardly any means of communication because the telephone lines were destroyed with every artillery attack. This was so bad that in the course of the war they had to make do with carrier pigeons and dogs that scattered the orders from the armies.

The newest and most devastating weapons were deplayed such as the machine gun, flamethrowers, airplanes and super cannons with shells weighing 7,1 tons that had a range of 38 kilometers!!

Due to the very inaccurate determination of the targets, the enitire battlefields were plowed by the heavy shells so streams and the water table changed while the battlefields became a large mud pool.

The men fought like lions, but were led by donkeys such as the Frenchman Ferdinand Foch, the German Rupprecht von Bayern and the Englisman Douglas Haig and other consorts, best described as butchers!

The life of the men was hell because of the constant threat of death and the exposure to heavy bombardements from the heavy artillery....

I had the day off on Wednesday so we went to Boyce Thompson Arboretum, about 45 minutes from our home. There was a fair amount of hummingbird activity, including this male Anna's Hummingbird. He hovered in front of me for a couple seconds checking me out. There wasn't yet much light so the shutter speed was just 1/25th of a second. Normally for hummingbird flight shots I'd like to be 1/1000th of a second. So instead of a machinegun rapid fire of the shutter, it was going click...click...click. Still has eyes and head came out sharp with the rest of him just a blur, especially those wings. I actually got several "postable" shots so I was pleased

With one arm resting on the prop here is Andrew the reenactor doing his Biggles bit . The plane is a Sopwith Camel - a bi-plane from the First World War era from about 1917 onwards . It did have quite a reputation as it was a bit of a handful to fly it appears !

As the III Reich was losing World War II, their friends in the spanish fascist regime of Franco were afraid of an allied invasion (which never came, sadly). So they built a fortified line along the Pyrenees. It was much less impressive than the Maginot or Siegfried lines, but at least the mountains gave it a difficult terrain all arround. It was known as Linea P, "P-Line".

Just below Camprodon there is a quite interesting sector. There are several bunkers from the "Coll de Camprodon" following the C38 road to the river Ter at the point where the plain disappears completely. Obviously, despite "yielding" Camprodon, it is a key strategic point, since the road is trapped between the cliffs and the river.

This is one several bunkers that could be found deeper in the forest, but still controling the road south of Camprodon.

In Martinet de Cerdanya, a sector of the line (the CR-53) is open to the public and restored.

A small wreck, already discovery by luck a few years ago, was always thought of as a coastal fishing boat. After re-visiting the wrecksite, we clearly discovered a small Gun, possibly an Anti-Aircraft Machinegun, which shows, this wreck si not a fishing vessel at all, maybe it is a sunken partizan boat from the resistance against the German Occupation in WW2?

When I took this photo 6 days ago at this stunning place – TY to the creators, I was thinking at the song Purple rain and I changed the lyrics (see below). Today I still think at this song, but I also see 2 Banksy Wall-art, which is the boy with a machinegun and the girl with a balloon. I think some boys need to learn to play with balloon’s and live, dance and smile in the pink flower rain.

Pink flower rain, pink flower rain

Pink flower rain, pink flower rain

Pink flower rain, pink flower rain

I only wanted to see you

Underneath the pink flower rain

Honey, I know, I know

I know times are changing

It's time we all reach out

For something new, that means you too

You say you want a leader

But you can't seem to make up your mind

I think you better close it

And let me guide you to the pink flower rain

The machine guns of the Sopwith Camel from a pilots POV , they are cleverly syncronised with the propeller as it spins in front of the guns so as not to ever hit the blades of the props .

The Camel was powered by a single rotary engine and was armed with twin synchronized Vickers machine guns. Though difficult to handle, it was highly manoeuvrable in the hands of an experienced pilot, a vital attribute in the relatively low-speed, low-altitude dogfights of the era.

The Petit Saint Bernard pass (or Piccolo San Bernardo) is one of the most important in the Alps, connecting the Aosta Valley south towards Savoie and Albertville.

In modern times the border has changed several times. Until the Second World War, the Italian side dominated the entire plateau of the pass, including a salient to take the hospice of St. Bernard, in the southern part. In addition, a series of bunkers, tank ditches and anti-tank barriers in the shape of "dragon's teeth" were built right around the pass (part of the Vallo Alpino), but almost all of this was annexed by France after the war, in 1947.

When an APC isn't necessary but armour still is, the CDU deploys Wolverines. With armour sufficient against small arms and light anti-armour fire, it can get a soldier from A to B without much hassle, and can even act as a stand-in for an IFV with its dual 5.56 (7.62 for FH variant) TATO machineguns.

Light Machinegun modification of SCAR-L, I put some hours into this, and I, myself am really proud of tiny details. So yeah, I hope you like it.

It turns out that there are bunkers from the spanish Civil War almost in the center of Madrid. In fact, this is one of three that are located in the now very well-groomed Parque del Oeste, between Complutense university and the Argüelles neighborhood.

They were part of the fascist front line that crossed the Manzanares river and reached the Ciudad Universitaria, at the end of 1936. Then, the front got stuck and remained there for the rest of the war. The contrast between the peaceful park today, with large trees and grass, and the bunkers of rough cement. There's not a single graffiti in them, which is not the case everywhere, unfortunately.

War clouds are gathering over both sea and dry land. A machine gun is all set, ready for defensive action, along with some thorns. Some spectacular bursts of sunlight break through gaps in the cloud-laden skies; these bursts represent a never-dying hope: Will Peace be given a chance at the last moment?

Had Greece been one single living creature, then Aegean Sea would have constituted its bloodstream.
