Originally i was going to get the macbook pro ... but then after seeing how pretty the imac was :$ ... *sigh...
I do have to move for university come September, which is why i would consider the portability of the macbook ... but for quality and purpose... which one ?

I like my Apple hardware, but it's always annoying when Apple brings out the next version and leaves you behind in the dust. When the new iPod comes out, you can't upgrade your old one. When the new MacBook comes out, you can't add the new features to your existing one. The only option is to make Mr Jobs happy and buy a new one, and sell the old one on Craigslist.
For example, I bought a MacBook Pro Core Duo, and not long after, Apple brought out the MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo. That little extra "2" meant a slightly faster processor, more memory and a larger hard drive. Eh, ok, I could live with that. It wasn't really HUGELY faster. I could add more RAM, and I could add a larger drive if I really wanted.
But then I discovered that the built-in wireless card (Airport in Apple-speak) was g/b, and didn't support the new n protocol. Boo. And there was no upgrade route. No n for you!
Until today. Today I found out that the wireless card for the MacPro was compatible with the MacBook and MacBook Pro. And as luck would have it, the previous weekend, I had just managed to talk an Apple Store into giving me this card so I could install it in my MacPro (and that was not an easy thing to do, believe me - it helped that it wasn't me that did the talking, but a certain cute nerdette). So i decided to stick it into my MacBookPro instead.
And it works!
Ok, so if you know what you are doing (or if like me, you are lucky) this isn't too tricky. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it.
It arrived! I am so happy - my new toy. 2.4Ghz, 4Gb, 15" of Apple beautiness. I am officially an Apple user. Although I haven't got time right now to really play with it, so I'm still on Windows (pah). But by the weekend...

This is my MacBook Pro battery. It split open like that due to swelling - I haven't pulled it apart at all! I never even knew batteries could swell until I noticed my MacBook was rocking on a flat table and then when I turned it over I saw a bulge on the battery. I even superglued it closed thinking it was just the glue on the casing that had dried out causing it to split open, but then again it forced itself wide open! Apparantly when a battery swells it's about to explode! I've since replaced the battery anyway.
Slight deformation in the side case above the dvi port as seen here. This is the only damage on the whole laptop and does not affect it at all.
My third and final resolution is to actually complete my 365. I want a year of memories that I can look at and share with others. Whether they're dull, exciting, or upsetting moments, I want them all.
So let's do this!
Very reasonably priced iPod speaker system, sitting next to the MacBook Pro churning out Final Cut renders.
The glossy screen (standard; no matte option) isn't optimum for use in a sunny office when windows are behind you. I wouldn't recommend this new model for anyone doing color correction of photos / graphics-- under *any* conditions-- either.
